This is NOT Education as Usual

What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?

What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?

What is a professional learning environment?

"What does it mean to be a producer of information vs. a consumer of information"- Strictly a consumer of information learns but does not relay that information in any form. That means that he/she doesn't use it, or share it. The strict definition of a producer of information would be tricky. I think that you can't create information. It is already there, in one form or another. You are simply converting, joining, or isolating it. However, I suppose information is constantly being made. When a new flower blooms, or when you walk into a room, that is creating information. Information is being created with the progression of time. Most people, fall somewhere in between. We all "consume" information, but we use it or tell others, hense "creating". So in conclusion, we "consume" and "create".

"What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?" Well, it's much like our world that we live in. All producer-consumer relationships revolve around one helping the other. The producer is the one that supplies the information to the consumer who then uses the information however they please. In doing so, the consumer then helps the producer by showing that they do in fact appreciate the information (I used "appreciate" rather than purchase, seeing as we aren't really paying for information) and thusly, the cycle is complete.

"What are the qualities of good teachers? Of good students? Of a good class?" Well as far as teachers go, I find that I enjoy myself a lot more (and end up learning and yearning to pay attention more) when a teacher is a little lenient on school policies. I am not saying that I think there should be total anarchy in the classroom, but allowing kids to enjoy themselves isn't that bad of an idea. I find that once a teacher has learned to cut slack to students, and respect the students, the same treatment is returned. And in this, it becomes *gasp* practical harmony! The qualities of good students however isn't the same. I mean, you can be a student who sits there, never speaks and does exactly what they're told to, but face it, that student does nothing for the class. A truly good student, at least in my opinion, is someone who really wants to put their voice into the conversation. They're the people who try their hardest to improve the classrooms, which doesn't always mean being that quiet, do-no-wrong kid in the corner. Once students really open up to one another, and add in their comments, then you do in fact have a good student (hooray for you). And it's truly simple to define a good class. A good class consists of a good teacher, a handful of good students, and one little pinch of that great saying: "This is NOT Education as Usual".

"What is a professional learning environment." My answer to this question is simple too. A professional learning environment is comprised of the perfect class and plain, clean, good 'ole respect. When you combine those, you'll be learning so much you're brain explodes (not literally, that's gross D:)

“What does it mean to be a producer of information verses a consumer?” The first answer that came to mind when I read that question was simply this: a producer is a teacher like figure, whereas a consumer is more of a student figure. The more I thought of it, the more I thought differently. It can happen either way. For instance, us, as students, are consumers of information because we go listen to our teachers and learn new facts. On the other hand, we are also “producers” because we can sometimes instruct that same knowledge to other people. Just like Leslie, I think that you simply can’t produce information, it is already all there, waiting to be taught. So from my perspective, a producer of information is someone that teaches the already existing information to somebody else (someone who doesn’t already know that information.) On the same token, I think that a consumer of information is someone that absorbs new information (mainly from the “producers”.)
“What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?” I personally believe that the one major quality of a good teacher is the desire to teach. Meaning they WANT to spend time with their students, get to know them, and most of all, love what they are teaching. I can usually pick up this quality right away. It’s the quality that lights up the room and gets everyone excited. In my opinion, similar to the good teacher, I think a good student is a person that has the desire to learn, therefore wanting not to cause distraction to the other kids in class. I think that an important quality for a good class is collaboration. Although before students can be comfortable working together, I believe that the class must be unified. Unity and collaboration go hand in hand. So a good class must be unified, so they can work happily together, and learn a lot more.
On almost the same note, I think a professional learning environment is a place that is open (both for discussion, difference of opinions, and literally “open”), clean, comfortable, and topped with respect.

Being a producer of information versus a consumer of information can mean several things. A producer of information can be perceived as a person labeled a “do-er” this is a term used to describe the people in the world who “do things”. They are the ones writings novels and running for president and trying to change the way things are. They are creating new information for the world or sharing other information. While a person who is described as a consumer of information may be labeled as a “watcher”. A “watcher” is someone who observes the world around them. They absorb and interpret information. It is not necessarily a bad thing. They just consume the information around them as opposed to creating or spreading it.
What makes a good teacher? The obvious answer would be something along the lines of, well clearly a good teacher is someone who teaches good, duh! But a good teaches is so much more than that. They need to be able to connect with their students on some level about the information that they are learning and teaching. They need to know how to relate to students about the subject so that they are on the same page for learning. But most of all the, teacher needs to know how to teach their subject. If they are trying to teach a math class the same way that they would teach a language arts class the students will be confused and not know what to do. Certain subjects require certain styles of teaching. Math, being orderly and precise subject should be taught in an orderly and precise way with specific instructions. Whereas, language arts tends to be a little more of a creative subject where students can express themselves through writing and reading, therefore can be taught in different and more creative ways.
What makes a good student? A good student is a student that wants to learn, a student that has a drive to succeed and do well. Sometimes the students that are good may not be the most organized student or the student that talks the most in class, but the student that wants to learn. A student does not need to be a nerd to be a good student, but they must want to learn. A student that wants to learn does the homework, pays attention in class, asks questions to find out more information and does well on tests. In order to do these things the student must have a drive to learn.
When the phrase “professional learning environment” is spoken aloud a picture comes to mind, a picture of students in a traditional classroom with a chalkboard and an old woman teach pacing around while the students silently write irrelevant information on a piece of a paper. Even though that may be the traditional picture it doesn’t mean that other methods of learning are not also professional. A professional environment is just a classroom where the students respect the teacher, the teacher tries as hard as hard as they can to teach the students well, and the students learn. This type of classroom can come in any subject, in any grade, and in any type of classroom. It just needs to have the components of a professional learning environment.

to be a producer of information is to figure out things, do experiments, and solve things, somewhat making information that humans can understand. A consumer of information learns from what the producer has figured out and may use this information however he/she pleases.

Good teachers are ones that connect with their students and learn what they are like. they know what teenagers are like and make class fun for them. good students are ones that do their work and go beyond what is wanted. they obey all the rules and show the teacher some respect. a good class is one of where the students and the teacher function well together and get more done faster. it's a matter of functionality and compatibility.

a professional learning environment is where the "environment" is based upon tools to help the productivity of the students and the teachers. with a professional learning environment, more productivity gets done than without one. but the environment is solely based upon the supplies needed and not anything else.

"What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?"

Consumers of information learn but they do not teach. However, a producer of information teaches a consumer of information. It is possible to be both a consumer and a producer.

"What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?"

Teacher- A good teacher should be able to explain concepts in a way that the students easily understand. Additionally, a good teacher should be open to questions and be respectful of their students.

Student- A good student should take in as much information as possible. He or she should also ask questions if they don't understand. Good students must always follow the classroom rules and guidelines. Most importantly, they should respect their teachers and classmates.

Class- A good class is much like a good student but on a larger scale. The class should respect the teacher and be able to do work quickly and efficiently.

"What is a professional learning environment?"

A professional learning environment is one in which the class is not disrupted. In a professional learning environment students must also be respectful and listen to the teacher.

Question 1- To be a consumer of information is to take in the information that other people have produced. Consumers take in this information while online, watching telivision, or reading magazines and books. However, consumers cannot "consume" if there is nothing to consume. That's where the producers of information come in. Producers are people that create information in places that consumers will look for them. I'm being a producer right now, in fact, by publishing this comment right now. An interesting thought, though, would be to say that consumers can also become producers by sharing information with others.

Question 2- A good teacher is someone who comes to school and teaches. A GREAT teacher, however, makes learning fun, endurable, and enjoying. He or she cannot do that, however, if they do not like their job. A sulky and bored teacher will, at the end of the year, passed her “burning passion” for education onto her students. Sulky and bored students plus a sulky and bored teacher equals a sulky and bored classroom. However, if the teacher is passionate for teaching, she will find her students developing a passion for learning. Another good quality for a teacher to have is the ability to follow up with what she says. Kids need things to look forward to, such as sharing a project or watching a movie, and taking those away at the last minute is just not fair.

Question 3- I’m not sure about what a professional learning environment should look like. You can have all the tables, laptops, projectors, and rolly chairs you want, but those are not the key. What is essential is that teachers are able to use the supplies provided to the best of their ability. Pioneers, I’m sad to say, did not get to see “Bill Nye the Science Guy” on their projecter every day, did they? But they did use their primers and chalkboards to the max. So what you have in a learning environment doesn’t matter as much as how you use what you have.
And sorry ‘cause I probably just took up a LOT of room.

Question 1: A producer of information could create information for the public where as a consumer of information digests, takes in, or tries to understand information. The producer also could package information to make it easier to understand. In the public producers are more like teachers, scientists, parents and even textbooks! Consumers are more like students, younger people, or people who want to learn. But, producers can be consumers and consumers can be producers.

Question 2: The qualities of good teachers are to be understanding, nice, uses good techniques to teach the class, and funny but serious about their jobs. The qualities of a good student are to be an active listener, ask questions, involved in class discussions, loves to learn, is flexible in the way the teacher teaches, and puts hard work into every assignment. The qualities of a good class are to be controlled, willing to work with each other, nice group of kids, active listeners, teaches each other along with the teacher, and has good discussions about the current topic in class.

Question 3: A professional learning environment is where people are taught by professionals, want to learn what they are teaching, a positive place where people come to get educated, a controlled environment, and the people being taught are treated like professionals themselves. It is an environment close to perfect but always room for improvement. Also, the students react to criticism with a positive attitude, and respect each other and their teaching environment.

1. First, a consumer of information uses others' work for their gain. They rely on others to put the info out there so they can use it for their own purposes. Whereas, a producer of information is the source that puts the info "out there". Whatever category "out there" covers for others personally, whether it be a library book, a lecture in class, or even this very blog, it was put there by something. Or for the uneducated people, a political station on the radio or a news cast on TV are places where information is put. In the grand scheme of things, the producer of the information would not have been able to put out there ideas without the consumer responding. For example, an author writes a book and plans on publishing it. But the book must be edited and reviewed before anything of that nature can occur. If no one does this, the information the book contains can never be produced for the public to consume. Thus, much information is lost for no good reason. In the end, producers of information and consumers of information are different, but go hand in hand.

2. I believe that teachers can only bond with their students and vice versa if common qualities are found. Teenagers bond with teenagers more quickly than with adults, so if the adult finds ways to connect with the students in a fun yet controlled way, learning will flourish. Feeling comfortable and content with the atmosphere of the class and teacher as a whole always made things more inviting for me. As the students go, they should find that common ground with their teacher by acting more mature and taking responsibility, as an adult would. I believe the only way way for the class to be comfortable is for the teacher to feel just as comfortable as well. When both the teacher and the students find ways to make each other feel welcome, everyone wants to go to that class for the support and comfort they recieve.

3. A professional learning environment means a whole lot wrapped up in three words. I also think that it depends on what you find challenging, exciting and comfortable. For Ms. Smith, it means getting our heads out of old-fashioned ideas and using what modern technology has to offer. I think that it is a place that doesn't teach students what they will need to know for the next four years, or even college. Rather, they learn for life, and using modern technology prepares students for that. As the saying goes, "Whatever I learned in life, I learned in kindergarten." To me, that means if a good base is built, the rest is built well over time. In conclusion, when things that will help us thorought our lives, like what we will be facing in the future are taught, I would consider it a professional learning environment.

“What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?” When confronted with the word producer it usually makes me think of someone who makes or creates something for someone or something else to use. So a producer of information would be someone or something that generates information for others to use. Therefore a consumer of information would be the one that takes and uses the information that the producer provides to them to learn, but they do not give it back out.

“What are the qualities of good teachers? Of good students? Of a good class?” I think that there are many qualities that a good teacher should have. Such as having a good sense of humor, connecting with the students, being strict on the level that make them pay attention but still get to have some laughs, relate to the students, and they should always understand that the kids have lives outside of school too. Qualities of good students would be listening, organization, responsible, on-task, and care for others :). Qualities of a good class would be getting along, working together, and everyone participating.

“What is a professional learning environment?” A professional learning environment is when the people in the environment are somehow learning in a good way. It should be somewhat serious but still having fun and it should also have the right supplies and equipment for what needs to be done.

To be a producer of information, rather than a consumer; you must be on top of things and speak your opinion. In school, you can just about divide the entire class into two groups: ones that make their opinion heard and run the class (leaders). Then there are the people that go with the flow, don’t really care about the subject, and don’t make their opinion heard (followers). Now maybe the “followers” are just shy and are too intimidated by their “leaders” to speak their opinion. People constantly flip-flop in between the two groups depending on the topic of conversation.
Qualities of good teachers are quite simple, as of good students. Teachers that treat students like mature adults will have students that are mature and respectful. Students react like this: If a teacher disrespects a student in front of his or her peers, that student will be embarrassed. That student will do anything to try and recover from his embarrassment most likely the student will disrespect the teacher in front of his or her friends, making this situation spin out of control. Both teacher and student now go into a grudge match and no matter what, it won’t end pretty. The relationship between teacher and student relies on mutual respect. Qualities of a good class is students that want to learn and respect the teacher and a teacher that is creative, fun and delivers the knowledge in entertaining ways.
A professional learning environment has little distractions but yet is not dull and boring. It also has stimulating objects and tasks to make learning fun.

"What does it mean to be a producer of information vs. a consumer of information?" Someone who produces information is someone who thinks of new ideas and thoughts and begins discussions. These types of people create new information and are usually not afraid to speak their minds and share there opinions. However, someone who consumes information is someone who is less outspoken and consumes the information they hear from those around them. Both types of people can be found in the everyday classroom. Consumers and producers of information are both needed for the world to be as it is today.

"What are the qualities of good teachers? Of good students? Of a good class?" Good teachers are the ones who make learning exciting and actually get the class involved in the lesson. They teach the information well, but they don't bore everyone to death in the process. I don't think that their is just one solid definition of a good student. However, to me, a good student is someone who gets involved in class and is interested in learning. Good students are able to ask questions and fully understand the information. A good class consists of a good teacher, students who are willing to learn, and an environment that isn't so structured all of the time.

"What is a professional learning environment?" To me, a professional learning environment is a place where you can learn easily but have a good time as well. It is a place where you feel comfortable speaking your mind and where learning isn't a chore.

“What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?”
A producer of information is someone who creates ideas and combines them with their knowledge and knowledge gained from others and turns these ideas and information into concepts to teach others. Consumers are these others. They take in information from producers and apply it to everyday life. Most consumers in life become producers as they age because with time, everyone grows wiser.

“What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?”
The most important qualities a good teacher can have are patience, trust, and passion. If a student is iffy on a subject or is having trouble understanding an assignment, his or her teacher should be able to take the time and explain to them what is going on or the basics on how to do their assignment without becoming easily irritated. Also, a teacher should have trust in their students; they should believe that their students can and will succeed with that extra push to get them going. A passion for teaching though, makes both patience and trust easier for a teacher. If he or she loves his or her job and enjoys working with their students, students will be able to spot the enthusiasm making it easier to relax in their surrounding environment.
A good student, though, will return the favor. Students should respect their teachers, providing their undivided attention when it’s asked for or demanded, raising their hands and asking questions when they’re stumped, and completing all their work and showing up to class on time. The one way that good teachers can trust good students is if the students give them a reason to.
Overall, a good class consists, I believe, of students and the teacher. If students can interact with one another and their teacher well, the whole class should be an over all success. As long as there is communication and everyone is treated equally, a good class should not be too difficult of a task to pull off.

“What is a professional learning environment?”
A professional learning environment is a place that has little pressure or stress added to help people feel comfortable with their surroundings. This environment also has few distractions, making it easier to concentrate and gather information. This is a place that make is fun to learn but keeps everyone on task.

"What does it mean to be a producer of information vs. a consumer of information?"

Obviously a consumer is one who takes everything in without letting anything go. So this means that a consumer of information just only takes it all in. They do not access it at any point in time, it just lingers in the area of consumption (in this case the brain). They do not relay this information to anyone. A producer is someone that has the knowledge to think for themselves and to relay this information on, not just to take in all the information, but to put it to good use. Producers of information are all around us in this class, as we think, we produce information. We are a little of both, consumers and producers, (as most kids have already said) and I think that in this class, information will be flying around the room all the time.

"What are the qualities of good teachers? Of good students? Of a good class?"

I think that the qualities of a good teacher is a teacher that has the brain of a teenager. In some ways that sounds a little weird because we should have adults teaching us, but teachers MUST speak our own language. They must understand what goes through our minds every single day. Im not saying that they should only have the brain of a teenager, because then there would be no respect in the classroom, which brings me to my next point...The qualities of a good class must be a class that does not distract one another in any way, we shouldn't be competitive with one another, instead try to help eachother out and learn from others stregnths and weaknesses. They should respect eachother just as much as themselves and everyone should be on a friendly level with eachother. (That goes for both questions, students and class!)

"What is a professional learning environment."

A professional learning enviroment as I have already stated in the last questions is somewhere where there is respect, cooperation, and a variation of the teacher teaching and the students being able to discuss openly about the subject at hand.

Thanks!

"what does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information"
a consumer of information feeds off of the producer for information, and doesn't find any information for themselves. a consumer doesn't use the information in any way, the producer sees that information in a different way than the consumer, since they found that information

"what are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?"
in teachers sense, i think a good teacher is one that likes the kids, connects with the kids, isn't extremely strict, and can throw in a little sarcasm here and there to make it fun. good qualities of students are having fun with the teacher, participating in activities and stay organized. Some of the best qualities of a good class are one that can sometimes joke around but still get work done and on time, one where the kids and the teacher connect, its not too big of a class, because then there isn't as much one on one learning with the teacher and the kids.

"what is a professional learning environment?"
a professional learning environment for me is one that is quiet and nice, but at the same time, chaotic and fun. Also one that can go in between the two in a matter of seconds due to respect for the leader of the group or class. when this happens, the kids are awake enough to pay attention and focus, but not to awake that they mess around

"What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?"
To be a producer of information is someone who has learned information of any sort and decides to share it with other people. When you produce information you are providing the information to those consumers of information. When you are a consumer of information you are the person receiving the information from a producer.
"What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?"
The good qualities of a teacher is someone who will give you information and make sure that everyone understands it. The teacher will work with each type of learner in the class and make sure we are all moving at a good pace. A good teacher will give you hard assignments, not to be mean but to help you be a better student when things get much harder. A good teacher will also help keep everyone achieving their own set goals. The qualities of a good student is someone who studies hard and participates during class time. If during class a student is working hard on the set task and taking notes they are being a good student. Good students always ask when they don't understand and they speak up in the classroom. A good class has many qualities. When another class mate does not understand somebody should volunteer to help them out or remind them to ask the teacher. A good class is courteous, respectful, quiet, positive, progressive, willing to learn, helpful and workers.
"What is a professional learning environment?"
A professional learning environment is a place that has a professional teacher. In this type of learning environment you will have respect and order in a classroom. You don't always have to be little angels, although that is a good idea, but you need to be respectful and courteous to other students as well as your teachers.

In response to some other responses, I agree with Stephanie on how she thinks a teacher could be a little lenient with some of the rules. Such as you, Ms. Smith, letting us listen to music. I think it helps students learn when they have the sense of being a rebel in them. It may sound silly but I really believe it helps.
And I also agree with Meg about how she likes to get to know her teachers and thinks teachers should have the desire to teach. If teachers do not have the desire to teach, or students do not have the desire to learn, someone is wasting their time.

Thank you.

Question #1
Well, if you look at what consumer means, it's " one who uses (something) in great quantity: squander". The meaning of producer, on the other hand,is "a person who offers veiw or notice : exhibit, or one who gives birth or rise to". In this case, a consumer of information would be a person who tries to find all the information that they can with out applying that information, instead holding on to and gaining more and more. On the other side of the spectrum however, the producer of information is to busy trying to create new that there is no time to process and digest any old information.

Question #2
My point from question one carries over so I'll start with what are some qualities of good students. A good student should be both a consumer and producer of information. This allows someone to have the best of both worlds; the ability to make new information but also a basis,a foundation built from old information into new. Other qualities of good students would also have to be that they respect and follow the direction of their teacher, no matter the circumstances. Some qualities of good teachers would have to be that they can hold a students attention without diverting from what is being taught. A good teacher must also love their subject; this makes my first point easier to acheive. Finnaly, a good class would have to be made up of good students and good a teacher.

Question #3
A professional learning environment seems to be the same as a good class. They both need a good teacher, a class of students who care about their work and their class.

"What is the differance between a consumer and producer of information?" Producers and consumers of information are seperated by their courage and creativity. A consumer may read all that they can about their subject and be considered an expert but they only learn from books and what others have told them. They are also too timid to tell the rest of the world the ideas that they have created. A producer has the creativity to think "outside of the box" and defy the society that many of us are so tightly bond to. They spread their ideas throughout world, no matter how stupid or insane the rest of the world might say that it is.

"What are the qualities of good teachers? good students? of a good class?" I believe that a good teacher is a teacher who inspires you to do more and also to be more. They show you that there is always another way to look at things, but mostly challenges you to be more than you ever thought you could. A good student, I believe, does not just meet the challenge and but decides to go above and beyond the requirement. Finally, a good class is one that works together to achieve a higher level in academics. They help eachother and themselves by keeping the original goal in mind but not being afraid "to stop and smell the roses".

"What is a professional learning envirnoment?" Well, I believe that it is when a good teacher is mixed with good students to create a fantastic class. This class goes on to learn about their subject and maybe even a little about themselves.

“What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?” A producer of information could be a person that creates information by doing something. These people are the ones who go out in the world and make a difference by creating or discovering something for other people to learn from. The information consumers are the people that learn about what the information producers produce.

“What are the qualities of good teachers? Of good students? Of a good class?” The qualities that make a good teacher include being able to understand all different types of people and how they learn, relating to the students in a way that they would understand to help them learn better, and being able to get the required work done but have fun in the process. A good student is a person that is willing to learn new skills and do the work it takes to learn them. A good class should have both a good teacher and good students that can all work together and help each other accomplish what needs to be done.

“What is a professional learning environment?” A professional learning environment is a place where students can feel comfortable and relaxed, but still stay focused to work.

“What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?” To be a producer of information, you have to be an active part of discussions and be able to produce information that is beneficial to the subject. A consumer of information only listens to the producer; they take in the information but rarely give out any of their own.

“What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?” Qualities of a good teacher include an ability to listen to a student and give feedback that helps the student improve and better themselves and their work. Qualities of a good student include listening to the teacher, but being able to speak up about that subject as it relates to the class. Qualities of a good class include an openness that makes no one feel awkward, and also an atmosphere that makes people want to share their ideas.

“What is a professional learning environment?” A professional learning environment is a place where hardcore learning meets fun and excitement. Of course fun doesn’t mean out of control, but it does mean people enjoy coming to class and participating in every day things.

To be a producer of information means to create and give the information rather than to take in and respond to the information as a consumer. I believe it’s good to be on both ends, both a producer and consumer, because then you can be able to share your thoughts while still taking in other inputs.

“What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?”
Qualities of good teachers include: being able to have fun in class and goof off a little, being hard yet helpful, and not adding too much stress on the students.
Qualities of good students include: paying attention in class, being prepared (homework, supplies, etc.), working hard and not afraid to ask questions in class or talking to the teacher.
Qualities of a good class include: working together as a team, being able to laugh around with the class while not feeling uncomfortable, and getting know everyone in class as friends.

“What is a professional learning environment?”
A professional learning environment is where one can feel comfortable and relaxed. It helps me to listen to music, whether I like it or not, while I’m working and learning.

Q1:I believe a producer of information creates information and helps spread that information so others can become wiser and more knowledgeable. Meanwhile, a consumer of information is somebody who takes in info and uses it to improve their own inteleect, yet they do not share it.
Q2: The qualities I look for in a teacher are: the teacher is easy to talk to and approachable, and the teacher also helps children understand a subject or problem. For students the key to being a good student is simply following directions, listening, asking questions, being organized, doing homework, being active in class, and they help other struggling students. The terms for a good classroom are: an active one which the students are allowed to work with partners or help each other on problems.
Q3: A good work environment is simple to achieve. The student must be combfortable and concentrated.

What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?

Producers of information are the "givers" of information and knowledge. They are always looking for new innovations to make information accessible to the public and the consumers hungry to eat it up. Producers are what makes learning possible and are the ones responsible for helping make the world turn and change for the better. When we think of producers of information we think of teachers, pastors and yes, even the internet. They are not afraid to dive into mysterious to suck out the fact and wisdom to share with the world. Consumers are not however, bad. Everyone at some time in their lives have been in both shoes. They choose to be "takers". In my opinion most all adolescents are taking as much information as possible at a rapid and increasing speed. Without consumers the producers would have no job and vice versa with producers. Consuming and producing information is at a constant cycle. Everyone has been in both roles and hopefully this cycle of new knowledge and learning continues.

What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?

I think its hard to pinpoint a few specific qualities to deem a teacher "good". Each teacher is unique with their own voice and style of educating. To make a comparison, take a look at an artist. The techniques for different artists are very diverse, but at the end the result is a masterpiece. To be broad, I think the qualification of a good teacher is this, through all the tedious work and teaching, long hours after school tutoring and and grading papers if he/she has managed to teach one student something minute or life impacting she/he has accomplished their job.
A good student is also something hard to condense. Every person knows their limits and their capacity to learn. An accomplished and well-rounded student knows no limits. They are open to all ideas and test their capacity to learn. Good students are pushing the envelope and going the extra mile to make their homework and assignments more than just frivolous work and take in the information and applying it to life. With changing technology and techniques of educating the ideal definition a good class is always changing. Stating the obvious, it should be a haven for knowledge and the expanding of wisdom. It should be a place where students feel comfortable and open to share ideas and express themselves. It shouldn't be confining to a bare chalk board and dull posters screaming at kids to get straight A's or else.

What is a professional learning environment?

When I think of professional I think constricting business suits and tight buns pulled slickly back. This however should have no place in a learning environment! A professional learning environment is where the relationship between student and teacher is to achieve one goal, to teach the student. The definition though of a traditional classroom is changing fast so in today's high tech world its simply just using the tools you are given properly to learn, and respecting and maintaining a respectful relationship with the teacher.

"What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?"
A producer of information is a person who thinks of ideas and inventions that this world needs. They can help the world by their new information. They don't need to find other information because they have their own and they expand their minds. A consumer of information is someone who uses other peoples information and that doesn't make their own information.

"What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?"
Qualities of good teachers range from teacher to teacher but a quality all teachers should have is to make connections to their students by helping them and getting to know them. They also need to know what they are teaching students. Qualities of good students is to have respect for teachers. They also need to respect other students ideas. You can be a smart student who never speaks or you can do something more and speak your mind and get feedback on your ideas. Qualities for students can also be used for qualities of a class. The class needs to respect what the teacher is doing because it helps you for the future even if you don't know it in high school.

What is a professional learning environment? I don't know for certain what a professional learning environment looks like but if you learn and feel comfortable in that environment it's professional. It also need to feel like a safe, secure place where work gets done and where work gets done well and on time.

What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?

To be a producer of information is to provide, or teach, knowledge of any sort. However, the quality of that information or the amount of truth in it could differ. A consumer of information learns from the producers and the information they give, like a student. A producer of information is a teacher; on the other hand, the consumer of information is the student. However, it is also possible for one to be both a provider and a consumer of information.

What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?

A good teacher is patient towards the students, yet strict to keep them on task and get the best of them to show. They encourage and forgive, but at the same time teach them how they can be even better and learn from their mistakes.
A good student is enthusiastic about learning, and always has a positive attitude. They are willing to learn and they try to excel in everything. He/she listens well, talks when he/she is allowed to, and obeys the teachers’ commands.
A good class operates well as a team and respects everyone else in the teaching environment.

What is a professional learning environment?

It is quiet when working, enthusiastic with the work, and respecting each other’s learning ability.

What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?

I think that a producer of information and a consumer of information have one distinct difference. A producer should have a relatively large amount of information about the topic at hand while a consumer should want to learn about it. Many people are both however, and seek to learn and then relay information. Unfortunely, most people who relay information are forced to by their teachers and have no real desire to pass on information to others.

What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?

I think that judging people as “good” or not is adopting a limited view point.

What is a professional learning environment?

A professional learning environment to me is a class room in which the students are mentally involved, active in pursuing their own learning, and show respect for their teacher. The teacher must also be involved and active in the students learning and growth.

“What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?” A producer is, by definition, (according to dictionary.com) “a person who creates economical value, or produces goods and services.” I interpret this as a person who creates visual, audial, or printed information and makes that information available to others, or improves, and changes previously believed information. A consumer is someone who sees, or listens to this information. A consumer can and often times is influenced by the information, whether in a negative or positive way. A producer puts out and a consumer takes it in. A simple seeming process that isn’t always so simple.

“What are the qualities of a good teachers? of good students? of a good class?” Although this question has no universal answer I believe, as a student who cares about my output and my learning environment that, first and foremost a class as a whole, teacher included must meet each other half way. “You can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink.” I think a good teacher needs to understand the material that they are teaching, they must be able to present that information in an understandable way and they must care about whether others understand. Good students must be able to question and challenge each other. A good class must be comfortable with each other and have respect for their ideas and differences.

“What is a professional learning environment?” A professional learning environment is, in my opinion, a safe, respect place of willing people and with tools necessary to succeed.

What does it mean to be a producer of information vs. a consumer of information?-
This is much like the animal kingdom. In the animal kingdom, all animals are producers somehow. The plants provide food for the herbivores and those animals provide food for the carnivores. And the remains are taken down by the decomposers which help the plants grow. The all provide for each other with what the other needs. When humans produce information via the internet, news, or just relay it, we all provide it for eachother and the information is constantly gaining details because the knowledge you can gain on one subject is neverending. We are all consumers of information in the same way animals are in the animal kingdom as well. We use what another provided us with and either become interested in it and add more facts or opinions to it and it eventually gets passed on, or we store it and others are able to get to it somehow and keep passing it on. Information is always being created so we are always producing it and consuming it.

What are qualities of good teachers? Of good students? Of a good class?-
Qualities of good teachers are that they will learn along with the students. Not only teach them, but learn how that class learns, to best teach that class. Everyone learns in a different way, so if the teaches teach how that class learns. Qualities of good students are to come prepared with supplies, and prepared to pay attention. Students have to pay attention...that's not to say they can't have fun and socialize, but we need to do it appropiately, because when we are supposed to be learning off of the teacher we should be talking to her and asking her questions.

What are qualities of a successful class?-
Qualities of a successful class are that the class is willing to learn and that the teacher is willing to teach them, and that the class can learn off of eachother. Each person has something new to teach them so by learning off eachother you gain valuable knowledge. Successful classes are able to ask questions and gain answers. In a class everyone has to work together so we all have to be up to the same level of being willing to learn, that way we all stay together and we all get ahead. We all consume knowledge off eachother and we all create knowledge for eachother.

"What does it mean to be a producer of information vs. a consumer of information?"

"pro·duc·er [ prÉ™ dssÉ™r]n. (plural pro·duc·ers)somebody or something that produces something."

In every stage of life, there are those whom label themselves as the leaders, the outspoken, the teachers, the producers. Producers take the lead and distribute their information to the waiting consumers. Some take pride in this, hence, willingly do so. Others consider this almost as their job, their duty to help, to produce. However, one must be a consumer at a certain point to work their way up to a producer.

"con·sum·er [ kÉ™n smÉ™r ] n.(plural con·sum·ers)somebody or something that consumes something by eating it, drinking it or using it up."

The defination of a consumer is mainly straight foward. In this case, information can not be eaten or drunk, it is being used up. Where does this supply of information come from? This supply comes from the producers. Consumers are learners, followers, watchers, and listeners. A consumer of information is someone who learns from others. You have to be a consumer of information at some stage in your life if you are ever going to be a producer of information. What one produces was once consumed.

What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?
Being a producer of information implies that you produce or give out information. No one can produce information; it is already there so producers merely give out information, and use it in their every day lives. People like this are teachers and coaches, or any other person who leads another. Consuming information is the job of students and learners who are given information by producers. They take in information and try to relate it to their lives. Everyone is both a producer and a consumer, maybe not at the same time, but even teachers still learn, or students teach, so there is no difference between a producer and a consumer besides the way they use information.

What are the qualities of good teachers? Of good students? Of a good class?

Good teachers are those who speak and listen. It is their job to give out information to students, but also to listen to what they have to say, and to accommodate to their learning style. A good teacher should be well prepared, give time for assignments and try to be lenient. Students have a responsibility to learn and should always be prepared and ready to learn. They need to adapt to the teaching style as well, and should try to complete assignments on time. Good classes are productive, well behaved for the most part, and prepared. Classes should also have good attitudes, and be lively and fun, this gives the students a better way to learn.

What is a professional learning environment?

A professional learning environment is one that is very productive and prepared. They are serious and active and constantly create good work. Positive or good attitudes are part of a professional learning environment. That means that everyone taking part in the environment has to want to be there and learn.

A producer of information arrives at conclusions and produces data with prior knowledge and the analysis of information created by others. Consumers analyze information and absorb it, but do not draw conclusions unless all of the “puzzle pieces” fit together. Then they become producers as well, whether they choose to make it public or not. When producing information, one must consume information as well. Without prior knowledge, reaching accurate conclusions about something is close to impossible. So, a producer of information must also be a consumer of information and vise versa.

A good teacher is understanding and really cares about the students. They don’t put a lot of stress on their students constantly and are always positive. I completely agree with Caroline B. Teachers that grab your attention and make you want to give everything your best effort make the best teachers.
A good student contributes to the class in a positive way by participating and respecting other people and their opinions. A good student always wants to learn. In my opinion the idea of the “perfect student” does not exist. Students that take chances with their work and are not afraid to make mistakes can learn more about themselves and their abilities.
A good class is like a tight knit family to me. Classes that do well and get along understand each other’s perspective and opinion.

The definition for a professional learning environment is different for everyone. Some people hear the word “professional” and automatically feel that “professional” and “fun” can’t be used together in the same sentence. I think a professional learning environment has fun and gets high level work done at the same time. By incorporating the qualities of all of the above, a professional learning environment can be very successful while still being enjoyable to work in.

"What does it mean to be a producer of information vs. a consumer of information"- A producer of information is obviously a person who creates an idea about a group of facts and gives this information to his/her surroundings; whereas a consumer of information retains that information given by the producer if they want. So if a doctor produces a new drug and sends it out in the market it is up to the consumers to decide if they want to use it or not. The consumers make the decisions and the producers make products.

"What are the best qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?"- The best qualities for a teacher to have would probably be to be open and talk about their life experiences and how it pertains to what we are learning. Using analogies would open the student's minds by using real life situations that they have experienced. The best qualities of a good student would be to be open and speak to the teacher about every curious thing that pops into their mind because teachers like to answer questions, that's their job. The students who do the minimum requirements for their class will most likely do the minimum requirements for life. The best qualities of a good class are not to be called a class but a family where they can open up and talk freely. A class full of students and a teacher that all can be themselves is truly the best quality for any classroom to have.

"What is a professional learning environment"- A professional learning environment is a classroom full of ambitious students who can't wait to see their teacher make jokes and use analogies and imagery and symbolism in their sentences. A professional learning environment is when that teacher becomes a role model for the students to do wonderful things in life.

To pin point the characteristics of a good teacher, student and class will not match everyone exactly. Every teacher, student and class is different. They all have different qualities that benifit them all differently. However, there is one pin pointed quality that will drive you to sucess. One must remember to have the yearn to learn. One needs to have the desire to learn, teach or participate. Without this internal light, one will not be a terrific teacher, a star student nor a leading class. It is the passion and desire that is the fuel to sucess.

1. A producer of information would be someone who shares information with others. They would be the ones offering to give you information. They don't create the information as much as they're the form of distributing it. Just like a music producer, the information producer finds information and shares it with the world
On the other hand a consumer of information receives information. They're the one's sitting in the back of the lecture hall simply absorbing the information being thrown at them. A consumer simply wants to learn and not share.

2. A good teacher is entirely a matter of opinion. In my opinion a good teacher involves their students. Let's face it, sitting in a room listening to someone drowl on is BORING. They make you want to learn more about the most boring subjects. They make a subject you've learned a thousand times seem like something entirely new and exciting. Good teachers recognize your strengths and weaknesses and build on them. Personality, they have to have it. And tons of it. It makes class seem more exciting. Teachers also know your personality which helps them to find a better way to teach you. In seventh grade I had one of the best teachers I've ever had for both science and math. The next year when my parents asked me why I preferred her to my current teacher I answered quickly with, "Her teaching style."
My parents of course said, "And how did she teach you?"
But try as I might I couldn't remember. She had made it such fun and had made it part of the conversation that no one had known that she was teaching. She had taught me my entire seventh grade year and I had no clue how I had learned it. Only that I had and could remember it without trying. That is the main trait for a good teacher.
Good students listen. If you don't listen and pay attention you never know what is being taught. They will be taking notes, asking questions. Trying to understand. Good students give everything 110% even if it's not their favorite subject. They will always be doing their best. Their not afraid to ask questions others would think are stupid, or dumb.
Good classes are usually a ton of fun, NOT students sitting quietly taking notes. Everyone gets along and respects each other. Support is key to having a good class. The teacher should support the students who should support each other AND the teacher. If that happens then everybody should feel comfortable and be able to say anything without fear of being judged or put down. You should be able to have fun but also do serious work together.

3. There are many descriptions of "professional learning environments." What comes to mind is a class room. But it can just be any place for people to come with an open mind to discuss ideas and to learn more.

Some qualities of great teachers I have had is doing things differently and not like a boring monotone. Just to change things around a bit and try new methods rather than sticking to the book. A good class should be willing to learn however the teacher instructs and ask questions when they need help. A good class should also respect the teacher AND each other and help each other to succeed.

The word "professional" brings to mind the standard monotonous styles of teaching but I belive any environment where you can learn and retain what you learned is professional.

See you all tomorrow!

"What is a professional learning enviornment?"

Having professional learning enviornment avaliable is key in suceeding. One does not necessarily need to be in a college observatory or in the library to grasp this professional learning enviornment. One could be anywhere, any time and still be as sucessful. The question is why. The answer is the will to learn. Every sucessful person, alive or dead had that will. Bill Gates had this will in his garage. His garage became a professional learning enviornment because of will. Albert Einstein had the will at his own office. Will that led him to creating one of the world's most famous equation, E=mc ^2.

If one attends the best college observatory and shows up with no will to learn, sucess will not be achieved. Sucess starts as a will to learn. Whether this will starts in a class room, a museum, the office, at home, anywhere, as long as you supply the will, sucess will follow.

If you are a producer of information instead of a consumer of information, you are actively doing your best to give information to others. You think hard, work hard, and produce information for people so that they can use it for themselves. If you consume information, you basically sit back, wait for the people around you to give you information so that you can use it yourself, giving nothing in return.

The qualities of good students are respectful, good listeners, and willing to do whatever you ask to to get it right. The good qualities of teachers are also good listeners because they have to listen to what you have to say so they don’t just blow you off. They also have to be good speakers to keep peoples attention. A good class must respect eachothers differences and listen to each other’s ideas and build off of them.

A professional learning environment is one that is quiet if it needs to be, but can enjoy each other’s company and be friends so that there are no arguments, etc. You must listen to each other and talk to each other so that everyone is on the same page.

Someone who produces information has study a subject intensely and discovered information then repeated it to and individual or individuals who do not know the information. The individual or individuals are consuming the information for future use.

A good teacher gives hints and points the student or students in the right direction but does not show them the end which should be discovered by the student or students. Good students listen take notes and follow instructions to the word and then use available information to come to a conclusion after much thinking and debate and complete knowledge of the subject. A good class does most the same as a good student but work as a team to discover information and mesh it all together into a single conclusion. As a class there are more heads working so the result should be a more precise answer.

A professional learning environment is one where students have access to many resources and are not hand-fed knowledge but discover things on there own. Students have a small amount of guidance but are not led all the way.

“What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?”

A producer of information and a consumer of information are in a way the same person. Everyone on this planet starts out as a consumer. When you are born you begin to when you die you “consume” information. Now the difference between people who all their life consume information and producers is the fact that producers share the information they consume. Like teachers, producers share things that they are passionate about that they have “consumed” over their many years they have been alive. Us as students are still in the consuming stage of life even though now and again we may produce and share information with others we haven’t gotten to that stage in our life yet.

“What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?”

Teachers- Good teachers should always love to teach what they teach. Also they should be friendly, funny, involved, and understanding and caring of their students. The things that they shouldn’t do in my opinion though are teach directly from textbooks and they shouldn’t speak in a monotone voice because after a while it is hard to learn and concentrate on what the teacher is saying.

Students- Students should be respectful, responsible, and ready for class. They also should be engaged in class, be friendly, work hard, and be proud of their work.

Class- A good class is respectful, attentive, on time, and prepared. In addition to that a good class shouldn’t take advantage of subs and should have a good attitude when it comes to learning

“What is a professional learning environment?”

A professional learning environment is a place where people feel they can learn, but they don’t only feel they can learn but they have proven their ability to learn in that environment. What I mean by that is if people feel like they can study better with an I-Pod and they prove they can then let them continue to study with an I-Pod.

In response to what other people have said I would have to agree most with Marie about students and teachers getting to know each other outside the class room. For example I still go back and see my 1st grade teacher and baby-sit for her and also she comes and watches my soccer games sometimes.

“What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?”
A producer of information could be anyone who adds to the information around in the world. It does not matter what the information is it could be hurtful, helpful, or even worthless to everyone. It could affect everyone differently. A producer could send out rumors, but another producer could be dedicated to always telling the truth about what is going on in the world. A consumer of information is anyone who believes or takes in the information the producers are producing. A consumer could become a producer/consumer if they tell other people what they heard or even just talk about it. Rumors are a result of producers telling consumers who become producers/consumers.

“What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?”
The qualities of good teachers are keeping qualities of things that are opposites. When a teacher is too much of one thing students start to either like them or not and the class starts to become partially motivated by the students who like those qualities. If your policies are mixed, students know that you like to enforce rules, but more of the rules that you strongly agree with making that class unique. Also, Teachers need to know how to find ways that students learn best. Qualities of good students are attentiveness, good listeners, self-motivated and hard working. When they are attentive and good listeners they are ready to learn and can learn. If they are self-motivated and hard working they want to learn and are ready to work hard for something they know will produce big rewards. Qualities of a good class are good students, a good teacher, and a desire for both the teacher and the students to learn. If the teacher thinks they already know everything they become less open to new ideas from students. If the students do not want the learning opportunities in front of them it will be harder for the teacher to teach and help them along on their way.

“What is a professional learning environment?”
A professional learning environment is anywhere that learning is effectively being taught by the teachers and received by the students.

"What does it mean to be a producer of information vs. a consumer of information? Well it seems to me like they are not as much opposites as they are sort of aligned. What I am trying to say is they can be put in chronological order;one comes before the other. To start off a person is a consumer of information. They will study or learn about a topic until they know all there is to know, that is everything currently known about the subject. Then the will seek to learn more than is know and there for become producers of information. However at the same time they are consuming the knowledge they produce. So it appears a person cannot be a producer and not a consumer but you can be a consumer but not a produce if you are not an expert in the field.

What are the qualities of a good teacher? They are several main things (in my opinion)that make a great teacher. First they have a sense of humor. A bland monotone voice is not good sounding. Also the teacher needs passion. If they don't enjoy teaching, learning is going to be a drag. For the most part if a teacher has those traits they will have other good ones. For example a teach who has passion will be excitable in class (unless ill =}) A student just needs to be organized and prepared. They all so are responsible for being passionate not just the teacher. A good class is just a combination of the two.

Many people think of a professional learning environment differently. I think of it in two major ways. One: the teachers is a professional either in there subject or in something related to kids or teens. If the teacher has no training or don't know the subject matter it will be bookwork all the time. Two: Any great environment needs tools. I'm not talking metal. I'm talking books, or computers, or globes, or posters. Something to let the kids or teens know, this is a classroom not a traveling circus.

“What does it mean to be a producer of information, or a consumer of information?”
To put it in simple terms, a producer of information is a person who creates the information and shares it with the public. A consumer of information is one who takes in all of the knowledge. These two points are the extremes of the situation, a two-sided argument, if you will. One side is the producing side, or the producer, whereas the other side in taking in, or consuming the information. I would say that neither side is worse off than the other is, other than that, the consumer does not share his/her opinion, and the producer does not hear the consumer’s opinion.

“What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?” I can only speak/ type in my own opinion of what these good qualities are. A teacher understands the student, (Listens to problems, and helps by giving advice.) trusts the student, (Allows them certain responsibilities.) and cares for them (Genuinely wants to know how they are doing.). Good students respect the classroom and teachers, (I think that everyone understands what I mean.) and does not keep a stolid motionless expression. (They are not programmed robots). A good class in a general gets along well, and actually likes each other.

“What is a professional learning environment?” When I hear ‘a professional learning environment’, I automatically think of a college classroom, or a geeky dormitory. It really means that it is a place that prepares a student to learn, and doesn’t have distractions.

“What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?” When you are a producer you compile, create, and distribute information. Some examples of this would be a teacher, a blogger, the media, or a writer. The consumer has a more passive role of listening, observing, absorbing, and learning. They take the information and use it for their won purposes. Some examples would be a student, a blog reader, people who watch T.V. and/or listen to the radio, or readers.

“What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?” To me, a good teacher is someone who makes learning fun and interesting. They are always open to new teaching techniques and trying something different. A good teacher is also a good learner. They ask for feedback from their students and they need to be able to connect with their students. A good student is ready and willing to learn. They are organized, participate in class, and are up for a little challenge. A good student is not afraid to ask questions during, before, or after class, and they get help when they need it. A good class is when the teacher and the students connect, and are able to function well together.

“What is a professional learning environment?” A professional learning environment is a place where teachers have all received degrees in teaching and other related fields, but are also passionate about what they do. A professional environment has all the resources the students need to succeed.

A producer will study a certain subjects, people, and/or events and then share what they have learned through books, by teaching, and many other means. Now a consumer takes the information and stores it until the time comes to use it. Basically consumers use the information for life and producers share the information for life.
Good teachers keep a class focused but still know how to have fun. They treat their students like adults and not like little kids that can’t be trusted. Also, a good teacher keeps the student engaged and interested. I personally like a teacher that teaches with hands on lessons. Good students always get their assignments completed on time, pay attention in class, and overall just try to learn as much as they can. Respecting the teacher, paying attention, and participation are qualities of a good class. If a class respects the teacher the teacher will respect the class and the class won’t lose any of its privileges.
A professional learning environment is one where a person can stay focused and be relaxed. It is very difficult to learn when the environment is so tense and uptight that you can barely breathe. The environment can’t be distracting either so there is sort of a fine line, but as long as there are no distractions and relaxing the environment is professional.

What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?

Being a producer of information you make the information and share the knowledge from one to another. Being a consusmer of information you consume or take in the knowledge given to you. There is a major difference in consuming the information and producing the information. When you change the information you produce a new improved piece of information. When you consume it you make it a part of you.

What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?

A quality that a student needs is respect. When you respect you receive respect back. A good quality of a teacher is that they teach the class a different way to each student. They don't only know one students methods but they use every method so every student can understand the lecture. A good class is where everyone participates, learns, and enjoys the classroom and classmates

What is a professional learning environment?

A professional learning evironment is a place where learning will not be interrupted. The class is clean, well put, and organized.

To be a producer of information means that one participates in what one is involved in and creates work/information. A consumer of information would mean that one would just be absorbing and not actively participating in the creation of information.

A few qualities I would like to have in a teacher are good listening skills, succinct in explaining directions, available for questions and time with students, playful and funny, understanding, and the ability to express their opinion without being offensive or intimidating. Qualities of a good student include listening skills, respect for ones self and others, ambition, excitement for what they are involved in, and self-control. A good class needs to have respect for their teacher, subject, environment, and one another. They also need to be able to work as a group well, which includes listening to each other and getting the work done.

A professional learning environment would be a place where issues can be discussed with maturity, people respect each other, and good work gets done.

"What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?"- In today's society, people most often rely on a public source to obtain information (such as newspapers, radio broadcasts, or televison). But in order for the ordinary person (who is in this case "consuming") to obtain the information, the information must be compiled, checked and published or in other words "produced". So in this scenario, one group of people (publishers, broadcasters, or news anchors) is producing information in one form for the general public to consume. However, a person is never strictly a consumer or producer of information; rather, it is continuous cycle. For example, a news anchor must go to the source to obtain their story. Therefore the anchor begins this cycle as a consumer. Then he/she develops his story and shares it with the public, now making him/her a producer. When a member of the public consumes the information, he/she may go on to produce the information to others. From this standpoint the cycle may never end, but the information may become out of date.

"What are the qualities of a good teacher? of good students? of a good class?"- I feel that a good teacher is someone who can relate with his/her students over common topics that may not have to do with the cirriculum. He/she should also be willing to help and encourage students when necessary. Likewise, a good student should be willing to connect with his/her teachers on a more personal basis. By doing so a strong companionship may form. In addition, a good student should be willing to participate and share their opinion. A good class is created when the teacher and students are comfortable in the environment and interested or absorbed in the information that he/she is presented with.

"What is a professional learning environment?"- A professional learning enviroment does not always appear as the conventional classroom with a chalkboard and students studiously taking notes on the teachers lecture. As is the theme of this blog, it is not always eduation as usual. The best learning environments may be produced in classes without desks where students sit on the floor or even outdoors. I think that a professional learning environment is based more on the teachers and students than the actual "environment" where the class is held. One such environment is created when there is a mutual respect between teachers and students and all members of the class are proactive and participating.

“What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?”
I think that this means it is better to produce facts and inform your peers of events rather than sitting back and let them tell you. I believe that being a producer makes you more proactive and a better student. Sitting back and letting teachers tell you everything without finding out your own information is not a good way to learn.
“What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?”
Good teachers usually push their students, but not too far, help students when they need it, and be a personable teacher. Telling jokes, connecting, being “real” and getting involved in students lives are all ways to become more personable. I also agree with Stephanie that being a little lenient on school policies is sometimes a good thing. A good student always turns their work in on time, they ask questions that invoke discussion, and help out classmates who might be having issues. A good class is one that is active, fun, and offers a variety. For example, the class varies from book work to novels to work sheets and does not do the same thing all the time.
“What is a professional learning environment?”
A professional learning environment is one that does not detract from learning. It has chairs and tables, but not too flashy to distract from learning. However I do think it is important to have some posters etc. so that the classroom is not boring. I agree with AnnaSophia that respect is important so that students feel safe.

To be a producer of information means that you are the person who gathers the research and puts it all together to benefit you as well as others. A producer of information is more of a leader than a follower, and more independent, while a consumer of information means that you are the one who benefits from the information that has already been gathered and put together for you. A consumer of information would usually be more of a following type, considering they are following up the people who put the information together (the producers) They are learning from it and sometimes drawing their own conclusions about the information given.
My favorite quality in a good teacher is a sense of humor. This makes class so much more interesting than sitting in a class listening to the monotonous voice of a serious, boring teacher. Good teachers also know how to respect their students and give them independence, rather than baby-ing them through the class. If we are treated like adults it’s almost an automatic response (for most at least) to behave responsibly. Fresh ideas and new thoughts about things are also found in good teachers. I would love when my English teacher last year would put her own input and thoughts into what we were learning. It helps me to keep an open mind.
A professional learning environment is one where everyone can interact appropriately and get things done properly and effectively, all while enjoying working with others. A professional working environment does not have to be a serious, silent environment, so long as everyone knows their role that will help the class as a whole get to the shared goal. Whether it is everyone getting an assignment turned in on time, or the whole class averaging above an A. A professional learning environment can be interactive and fun, while staying on track and focused on the goal.

"What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?" Although I believe nobody really produces information, they merely discover or find, I think that while a producer teaches or shares the information the consumer consumes, takes in and learns the information. And I think it is possible to be both a producer and consumer of information because everyone can learn, share and communicate what they have learned with others.

"What are the qualities of a good teacher? of good students? of a good class?" Although many might say that the easy laidback teachers are the most liked or enjoyed I feel the exact opposite. And I don't mean they should be so difficult and harsh that you feel uncomfortable and most likely scared, but they should give the student learning a challenge so they learn more. Also I think a good teacher is kind, and at times understanding, and makes the learning environment of a student confortable enough to succeed. Qualities of a good student consist of enthusiasm about learning and always has a good attitude, listens, communicates, works hard, participates, and asks questions. My idea of a good class would be mainly one who works together and is compatible with one another, and once again, one who participates. And based on my answers I see that it is not just one person's responsibility to make it a successful learning environment, we all take part in that.

"What is a professional learning environment?" I believe that a professional learning environment is a place or setting where students or whoever can learn effectively, and use all their resources in this process. What I mean by that is not that you must have all the expensive technology, rollie chairs, and all the toys and whistle to make it a professional learning environment, but using all of your equipment to the best of your ability no matter what you possess.

“What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?”

To me being a consumer of information is a person who takes in information. Versus said consumer a producer of information would be a person who took the information consumed and developed new ideas, or produced new information. Being a producer does not only mean developing new information but also sharing the information with others so that others may continue the creation of new ideas.

“What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?”

A good teacher is a teacher who goes the extra mile. Teachers who inspire their students to achieve the highest of their potential, those are good teachers. Ok teachers are the teachers who only teach the curriculum, good teachers are the teachers who instill wisdom into their students. Good teachers make learning fun and easy for every form of learner (whether they are visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners) and make the students want to learn. They develop a sense of friendship and respect between themselves and their students and not only do they make their students enjoy being in class, they enjoy it as well.
A good student is a student who comes to class excited to learn. They express a genuine respect for the teacher as well as the other students in the class. They understand what it means to be a student, they develop good problem solving skills and understand what techniques work for them in the classroom. A good student pushes themselves to achieve new heights. They set reasonable goals for themselves and they achieve those goals. Good students participate in the class. They spark discussion and ask good questions.
A good class is a class that has a warm and inviting environment. It has a high sense of respect between all of the students and the teacher. A good class is a class with a good teacher and good students.

“What is a professional learning environment?”

A professional learning environment is a place where students can openly share their ideas and express their creativity without criticism. It has a sense of camaraderie, the class works well together. The arrangement of the room is open and provokes interaction between the teacher and students.

What does it mean to be a producer of information vs. a consumer of information?

A producer of information is someone who is providing and sharing information. A consumer of information is someone who is taking the information in. Producers choose to share the knowledge they learn while consumers keep the information to themselves. We are all producers and consumers. Neither one is better than the other because to be a producer you have to be a consumer. I think it is good to be on both sides because you’re able to take in others input while still sharing your view.

What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?

A quality of a good teacher is the ability to listen to students. Every teacher is different so it’s hard to identify specific qualities. Teachers are like dancers, every dancer is different but they are all good. Qualities of good students are listening, doing their work, and trying. I don’t think there is anything that makes a “good” class because every class is different.

What is a professional learning environment?

A professional learning environment is a class where the teacher is dedicated to teaching their students and is involved with the students. The students should show respect for their teacher and classmates, are involved, and want to learn.

A consumer of information would be someone that often learns and takes in new information. They like to obsorb all sorts of new facts and information, but never pass on that information or use it in their lives. A producer of information, however, would be someone who either creates information to share with the world through things like studies or surveyes, or someone who learns information but is constantly sharing it with the world. Most producers of information would also have to be consumers. In order to learn new information to share with others, you must consume a certain amount. Most people are probably pretty balanced in their consumtion and production of information. However, some people may be more or less of one depending on their personality or job. A person who is very quiet may constantly be listening and taking in information, but never sharing. Also, students and children consumer more information while teachers produce more than other jobs. All people are consumers and producers, some people more than others.

"What are the qualities of good teachers, of good students,of a good class" I believe the best qualities of a good teacher are being fun and relatable. In lots of classes students get bored and dont pay attention or remember what they learn. If a class is fun, students are more likely to pay attention and remember the information. Qualities of a good student are being dedicated and hard working. If a student is dedicated to the class and to their goals (whether they are grades, etc) then they will participate and work hard to achieve that goal. The most important part of a good class is having the students "bond" in a way. That way they can connect and work together, rather than just being seperate students learning the same information, they become a class.

"What does it mean to be a producer of information vs. a consumer of information?"

A consumer of information would be the person recieving information but not using it for anything.

a producer of information would be someone who uses what they know to accomplish something.

For example let's say, someone knew how to climb really well, and there was a cat stuck in a tree. A consumer would do nothing and keep walking, while a producer of information would use what they knew about climbing to get the cat.

That being said, what everyone else said also holds true. A consumer of information wouldn't do anything with the knowledge, a producer could also teach with it. Teaching is also a way to use information. It is using one's information to help assure that the consumer (students as the case may be) then has the information at their disposal to later produce.

"What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?" A producer of information is one who gives out information to those willing to accept it. A producer could be a teacher, a doctor, a scientist, or even a student. But, it is not limited to that. A consumer of information is one who is willing to accept information. Consumers of info could be anyone, as long as they wish to learn. One person could be both, or only one. A teacher (as an example) could be a producer in that he (or she) can teach students ready to listen. He (or she) can also be a consumer in that the students may have a parcel of information to share with the teacher that the teacher may not have heard of or known.

"What are the qualities of good teachers? Of good students? Of a good class?" A good teacher is one able to accept he (or she) is wrong. Also, he (or she) must be able to have fun while teaching, i.e., not droning on in a lecture. He (or she) must also include the class in the teaching, asking opinions, listening to hypothesis, etc. A good student is a student willing to listen to a teacher and give up his (or her) time to come to the class to learn. A good student is also one who can control oneself in class, i.e., not shouting out or talking to their neighbors about something other than class, or when the teacher is talking. A good class as a whole is one filled with students ready to learn, and a teacher ready to teach, students willing to listen, and a teacher ready to tell.

"What is a professional learning enviornment?" A professional learning environment is a place where a student feels comfortable learning. It's also a place where a teacher feels comfortable teaching. More surface area, more comfortable chairs, and tools the students/teacher are familiar with contribute to a professional learning environment. A perfect learning environment is one where the teacher knows that he (or she) has the attention of all of the students in the classroom, where the students aren't falling asleep with boredom or fidgeting uncomfortably.

What does it mean to be a producer of information compared to a consumer?
A producer of information is in most cases a teacher. They have learned certain information about a subject, and are restating it using their own words, and maybe adding insite they recieved when they consumed it in the first place. Therefore, there will always be new information not only because we havent fully explored many of our subjects, but because every time some one really learns something, and they retell it, their insight is added.
To be a consumer of information is to take something in fully from a producer. If you don't go after it fully, and really take it all in, its not as big a deal. If you dont recieve personal insight, it wont mean as much to you. Which then means you wont be able to add your own flair to it. By adding our own personal insight, and then sharing with a teacher or teaching it ourselves, we can change the world!

What are the qualities of a good teacher? Good Student? Good class?
A good teacher is willing to try something new to get the students involved. They will change up the order of things to keep their students interested and active. They will break out of normalcy and do things different than before. Also, a teacher legitimately cares about each and every one of their students passing. They will be available for off hour help, before and after school. They will be open to accept others where they are, and work with them to reach their goals.
A good student will tell a teacher when they are struggling with a certain topic or subject. They will start the conversations to get help, and they will schedule their time to meet with teachers when they need to. Teachers should be open, students need to communicate.
A good class has open teachers, and varied opinions among students. They will be able to flow through discussions with one point after another, eventually opening everyone up to something they might not have experienced before. Their views will change because of the new information gathered, and no one(including the teacher), will come out the same.

What is a professional learning environment?
A professional learning environment is the classroom. it is a teacher bursting with a passion to tell their students how the world works. They will prepare their students how to learn and adapt to jobs that havent been created yet, and problems that dont yet exist. The students will be taught life skills and also knowledge.

To me, being an information consumer means I absorb what is being taught and understand it. However, being an information producer means I am able to take what I’ve learned and not only apply it but maybe impact, change it, or create something completely new. The producers of today fuel the consumers of tomorrow. They create solutions to issues while the consumers find them. Producers impact our world; consumers learn it. Consumers are the present. Producers are the future. Be both. Know our world; change it.

Sorry I forgot the rest of the questions

2. I believe that good teachers actively learn with the students. They listen and voice their opinions without sounding absolute. A good student also actively listens learns and participates. They collaborate well with others and are respectful of not only authorities but peers. The integration of good students with good teachers creates a worthy learning experience and a notable class.

3. I believe that a professional learning environment is one where people take their education seriously and the entire reason for the gathering is to learn.

"What is a proffesional learning environment?"
A proffesional learning environment is one where everyone involved is attentive and focused. The students and teachers need to all be willing to work hard, work together, and stay organized. I believe that if a learning environment is cluttered and disorganized then it will make it more difficult to learn and teach for others due to the distractions it provides. Also, if the participants do not want to be there and do not participate, then there will not be good disscustion. Also, such a lack of participation is very unproffesional. It is important that a proffesional learning environment is organized and that all people in such an environment are attentive and participating.

A good student is focused on the task at hand. A good student can also change gears pretty quickly to keep up with the lesson. I also think that a good student should be able to have fun and relax when the time is right.

A good teacher should be pateint, above all else. an impatient teacher won't be able to get much done with a group of teenagers, aching to go home. A good teacher should also be able to teach the lesson in a way that's also fun. Like a game.
A good class is where a good teacher and good students can get things done without conflict. There is no yelling or throwing, etc. but a calm atmosphere where people can work.

What is a professional learning enviroment?
I have to agree with stephanie on this one. She said "A professional learning environment is comprised of the perfect class and plain, clean, good 'ole respect."
Pretty straightforward. The only thing I'd like to add is that the class doesn't have to be perfect. We just need a class that is calm and doesn't 'spaz'. Spaz meaning freak out when one can't do exactly what they want. My class was like that last year. Our teacher had do go on leave for the last two months of school. Let's not have that happen again, shall we?

To be a producer of information, you must be willing to share your information with everyone so, they too, can learn. A producer (usually) enjoys the topic that the information is about and wants to learn more about it and find a way so then everyone can learn about the information. Generally the information they find is true, and already exists. However, a consumer of information is someone wanting to learn about something new or different. They can -with the information they learn- become a wiser and a more knowledgeable person (which hopefully is everyone’s goal in life) or a smart person. A consumer asks question to get answers; the questions don’t have to be Einstein level to be a good question, it could be as simple as asking what someone thinks and why they think that way. A good goal in life would be to learn something new every day and to teach something new to someone else; so, then you becoming both producer and consumer.
What makes a great teacher are the qualities that she or he holds. The qualities that the teacher must posse is the ability to laugh with the class (crack a few jokes) yet bring them back so, then they can focus and learn; to give a good amount of homework so, that we always have something to do and something to learn; to enjoy their job, students can always tell if the teacher doesn’t enjoy their job (it’s like a sixth sense), and if the teacher is bored, then we certainly are; and to be understanding, most kids have a lot on there plate- sports, homework, friends, and family- and most kids aren’t wasting there time, if the teacher yells at the student there not likely to want to work harder the next time. What makes a good student is not procrastinating, doing things out side school (sports, plays, art, ect.), the willingness to go the extra mile to get a project done, and paying attention in class ( a lot of kids get bored in class or fall asleep and a good student doesn’t). What makes a good class is the bouncing ideas of each other, helping each other when one person doesn’t understand, support of each other, and listening to each other’s ideas with out judgment.
What makes a professional learning environment is when people treat each other as equals, when all students act mature, saying smart and wise comments, not shooting down other’s ideas and the willingness to listen to other’s advice then, the environment is ideal. If, these things are all done, then it will make a comfortable and professional learning environment.
