I think it was very good. Not only did we ask Daniel Pink questions, but he asked us questions which the inner circle answered very well. Mr. Pink was very knowledgeable and seemed like he was very prepared. He seemed excited about the discussion with the inner circle. He answered some questions that applied very well with my WRP paper. I learned more about the topic and what he thought about it. Overall, this was an amazing experience for me, and I think everyone else too.
I really enjoyed picking Mr. Pinks mind and getting into some of the fuzzier Whole New Mind. It did feel, however that at times the inner cirlce was more of an inteview than a discussion. We really didnt focus on or peers but mainly Mr. Pink, which was enlightening but still not the whole reason why we were there. It was for our education as a whole class. Mr. Pink brought up some great points and questioned our ideas which in turn, stregenthed our ideas. I have never had the oppurtunity to talk about the book I was reading with the author and get to the real intent of what he or she was saying. Overall I felt that this was a rewarding experience.
I felt like the fishbowl went well, but it was different than i thought it would be. I thought the discussions in the outer circle went really well, and it was cool to get to talk to different people since there were two classes in the same blog post. Also, I thought it was cool to watch what all of the people around the world were saying about the fishbowl, watching how they commented about everything that was going on. The only thing I didnt like about the fishbowl was that in the inner circle, it didnt feel like as much of a discussion as I thought it would. I thought it would be us asking questions, Daniel Pink giving his opinions, and other people talking with him about whether or not they agreed with what he said. Instead, it was more like an interview, we would ask a question, Mr. Pink would answer it, and then we would move on to a whole different topic. It didn't feel like we got to talk as much, there was a lot of listening. But it was interesting to see what Daniel Pink had to say about everything, it gave me a whole new perspective.
I didn't like the cover it live blog as much as normal blogs we have done in the past, because of the fact that comments were continuosly flowing throughout the blog, this is most likely because of the extra amount of students. I also didn't like it as much because the conversation was limited to design only, for the most part, it seemed like students kept returning to the same topics over and over again. However, when I wasn't blogging it was very amusing to watch Mr. Pink talk about the numberous questions submitted. Towards the end I found myself watching Mr. Pink and not the blog do to the non-stop flow of comments.
I thought that Daniel pink was a very nice patient sounding person. He answered the questions well and stuck to his stories and facts. I though the outer cyrcle conversation was way to fast and way to off topic. Seven million people were talking about seven million things all at the same time and it was overwhelming. I skipped around a lot and random people just butted in with random comments and stuff with no relevance to the conversation before it.
Wow this was the coolest fishbowl ever! I am so glad I had the privilege to be on the inner circle. Not only is design something I am passionate about, but to discuss and exchange ideas with a globally recognized author who inspired so many of my little "ah-ha" moments while reading A Whole New Mind was absolutely amazing. At first I was more than a little intimidated to talk and jump into the conversation, but when I did it was so rewarding. I really loved this experience, and I can't wait to go home to my parents and say, "guess what I did at school today?" and they'll say, "what?" and I'll say, "Oh, just talked with a famous author about his ideas and my take on his bestselling book." This was something I will remember forever!
Today's fishbowl turned out only okay. What i heard of the inner circle's conversation was alright, but I guess I kind of expected something more exciting. They brought up good ideas but I'm not sure they were all that relevant. The live blogging was about the same for me. There were some great comments but some conversations that just were dragging on and didn't even matter. I am kind of dissapointed in myself for not bringing up better topics and I guess it just seems like the kids weren't prepared enough. Which is kind of sad because this was only a once in a life time opportunity. Daniel Pink was really interesting to watch/listen to. It is obvious that he has an intense thinking process and he really thinks through things throughly. He was a very nice and patient person and it's awesome he wanted to talk to us. So basically this fishbowl wasn't horrible, but for the circumstances I think we could have done better.
The blog today was very sucessfull in my opinion!I think we learned from our mistakes from our previous blog on this book, and I could tell everyone was well prepared to participate in the blog. We all brought our "game faces," as Smith would say, and it was overall an amazing expierience. It was cool sometimes just to shut the computer and listen to Daniel Pink. He got so excited sometimes and it was a little funny! Although it was a little hard to share a computer, Taylor and I figured it out. I liked the polls especially because they started off conversations that really benefited my learning.
I thought the questions in the inner circle were great, but at times they dragged on a little bit.
But in the end, I think that everyone stepped out of the library with a new understanding of the topic, "design."
I thought today’s fishbowl went pretty well. In the aspect of technology, I thought it was pretty seamless. Daniel Pink stayed on the screen and he could hear us and we could all hear him. There was only two times where we experienced technical difficulties where either he cut out or we did. Everything went well on the blog too. From a content standpoint, I thought this one was much better than the last one. The blog discussion (for the most part) stayed very related to design or the book in general. When things did stray off topic on the blog, people just asked new questions instead of saying "Were getting off topic." I thought that we sparked some good discussion and really engaged the adult visitors who were watching the blog. The inner circle had very intriguing questions but Mr. Pink was really passionate so he talked the most. Overall I think that this fishbowl was much better than the last one and I think we impressed Mr. Pink.
It was a really interesting experience. I was surprised how easily Mr. Pink was be able to answer all of our questions. He would answer ,and even give examples of the point he was trying to make. The entire conversation seemed as if we all had rehearsed it multiple times. I would really like to thank Mr. Pink for allowing us to have that hour with him. Many points he made really stuck with me.I also must congratulate the inner circle we had. They were terrific.
I thought today went pretty well. We did a much better job in the inner circle than we did on the last discussion of A Whole New Mind. I was, however, a little bit frustrated by some things. First of all, Mr. Pink took awhile to answer each question. While it was good to get thorough answers and really hear his opinion, it also made it hard to add to things. I also felt like he still left a lot of stuff in the air and a lot of what he said contradicted other things. But, as a whole he did a great job talking with us. Another thing that bothered me was that it was not much of a discussion. Because of the way it was run and the amount of people as well as the long distance thing it felt more like a question/answer than a discussion. I also think that we came back to the same things a lot like people weren’t listening to everyone else. AT one point we discussed bringing design into school and then several minutes later someone else asked about it again. I did not get a chance to look over the cover it live yet. Not many people came into the inner circle; I think that may have had to do with the fact that it was not as much of a discussion. Over all though, I think it went really well. It was a great experience to get to talk with the author and hear his further thoughts and explanations on the book.
I thought this was a great fishbowl!!!! The bar was set high for us but I think we achieved what we aimed for. Some of the comments were not very relevant to the conversation and sometimes we kept on one topic for too long but overall it was much better than last fishbowl. As some of you might have noticed, it took some time for your comments to be posted, most likely because we overloaded the website, but this just made it hard to keep up with the inner circle conversation. I thought it was cool how we had some really important people joining the conversation like David Warlick. He brought up some amazing points and also asked us to back up what we said, making us think. I thought this was an awesome experience and would like to do something like this again.
I felt kind of disappointed both in myself and our class as a whole. The inner circle seemed more like a question and answer session instead of a discussion. No one ever disagreed with what Mr. Pink said. I don’t know whether that was out of fear to contradict him, or everyone just being in agreement but I thought someone should have brought up opposing points in order to spark deeper conversation on a subject. I was also slightly disappointed in the blog. I was never involved in a truly intriguing conversation and I am not sure if that is because there was none or if it was my fault for not contributing more to the discussion. I thought that having the author there would motivate people to strive for better discussion, but unfortunately I do not believe we achieved that.
I think that talking to Daniel Pink in the inner circle was very interesting. I think that he talked too much though and he really didn't let us get our thoughts or questioned. I sort of noticed that he would just keep talking about one thing and then he would somehow change the subject and if I had a question to ask him about what he had just said, by the end of what he was saying it would not be relevant anymore. But other than that I just thought that it was really fun to talk to an author of a book that we had to read for school. Most of what he said was very interesting and got me thinking about other things too. I didn't have a computer in front of me, so I couldn't see what everyone was talking about on the cover it live blog, but I just went over it again and it seems like everyone was talking about some interesting things.
I think that this fishbowl was our classes best by far. Several things were brought up that were not discussed before. For example, math becoming useless under the new “conceptual age” was discussed for the first time. However, the subject was forgotten in the heat of discussion. My only regret was that I could not respond nearly as fast as I would have in a regular fishbowl because I had to share a computer.
I thought that the fishbowl that we had with Daniel Pink was very good. We really expanded on the whole meaning of design. we asked good quesions for Daniel Pink but I think we asked to much questions for him. We really didn't have an actuelly discussion, I thought it was just question and answer. But we did have good discussions when we had them. We reflected what Daniel Pink said in person and what he said in the book to real life situations that are happening in the world today.
I thought that the discussion with Daniel Pink was very helpful. I found that listening to him explain his ideas and hear him talk helped me to understand more about his book and he is trying to say about the right brain. I felt like the inner circle asked great questions and really made Mr. Pink think and really explain his point of view. I feel that i understand and enjoy Mr. Pink's book a lot more than before and that i agree with Daniel Pink a more then i thought i ever would.
Overall this fischbowl was kind of dissapointing. I think everybody tried hard and came in with some good ideas but I just did not really go anywhere or add anything really interesting to our understanding of the text. IT was interesting listening to Mr. Pink talk but the conversation just really was not that engrossing or fascinating. I am not sure really what I expected or why I feel this way but I think we could have done better. I guess the conversation did not really change my perspective or open my eyes. Part of this may be inherent in the subject matter and the text but it seems like alot of what was discussed was obvious and foregone. Still I think everyone tried hard and was well prepared which was good.
Although, I was unable to be in the majority of the conversation on the blog (due to technical issues) but the conversation I was in on; to be honest really made me think.
Thank you.
The live blog with Daniel Pink was not what I was expecting it to be. Having said that, I don’t think that it went bad just that I expected Daniel to listen to what we were talking about more instead of answering every question. I kind of felt that people were interviewing him more than asking insightful questions about his book. Even though the questions from the inner circle were asked in an interviewing way, I thought that all together they were good questions that didn’t focus on just one point. I would really like to see the blog from last year and compare it to this year.
I thought the blog today was a one-in-a-lifetime experience that I will never forget. At first I was a little hesitant to speak but once I finally plucked up the courage and said something, it became easier to add feedback. Mr. Pink seemed genuinely intrigued about our discussion, but if felt at times that we were not discussing but just asking Mr. Pink questions. I think the questions were deep and thoughtful for the most part, thought, some seemed to only require a tiny response and were a little below our level of questioning. Otherwise, this was a thrilling experience that I shall never forget, and I thank Mr. Pink for taking the time to talk with us, and I thank the library staff and Mr. Fisch and Ms. Smith for setting all of this up for us. Thank you all so much.
I thought that the fishbowl with Daniel Pink was an interesting experience. He is clearly very intelligent, however at times he seemed to contradict himself. It was a great experience to hear him talk and listen to what he had to say, however, it seemed at times that we were simply interrogating him, instead of having a discussion where he was involved also. Some of the things that he had to say were amazing and they really made me think. A lot of people in the inner circle had great questions to ask him, they were mature, and they held their composure well being in such a pressured situation. The video-skyping went almost perfectly, which was really a blessing. Overall, it went well, and we really appreciate Mr. Pink coming to do that for us.
I think that our fish bowl went really well. Daniel Pink really got into the questions the inner circle asked him. Pink had long explanations for all of our questions which I appreciated. I really liked how we had to share computers because while your partner was typing the other was able to watch Pink. Also we were able to converse with our partner on controversial comments. The blog itself was on topic and very thoughtful. In conclusion, I am really proud of our fish bowl!
I had a lot of fun on the blog with this fishbowl. It all went very well, both the inner and outer circles. Honestly, though, I wasn't paying a ton of attention to the inner cricle discussion as I was blogging. But what I did catch from the inner circle was fantastic. This was a great experience.
I think that the Fishbowl with Mr. Pink went well. It didn't feel like a fishbowl, however. It was more of an itervie, most of the time, people asked Mr. Pink questions, instead of having a group discussion. I think of it as more of a question and answer session. On the outer circle, the conversation changed quite a bit and i liked it. It was better with alot of people in the outercircle, i do think that we could have had more involvement in the inner circle though.
I think that the fishbowl with Mr. Pink went very well. The people in the inner circle asked great questions, and they were very respectful to what Mr. Pink had to say. I think the outer circle did a great job blogging and we even had some guests comment with us. This wasn't like a traditional fishbowl, but more like a interview. It was still a awsome expirience for us to have. I really liked all the technology involved like the webcam and the snowball mike. Overall it was very exciting and I enjoyed doing this.
Over all I think that the fishbowl with Daniel Pink went well. I was on the outer circle and I found that the polls that were put out helped everyone with their conversations. From what I could tell those that were on the inner circle did very well too. They weren't afraid to disagree or state their opinion in front of Daniel Pink.
The Fishbowl, in my opinion, went amazingly. Daniel Pink was able to talk to us in a way more like we were all having a conversation rather than teaching us. On the outer circle, we had multiple conversations going and none of them were dull nor had dull parts.
I think that the fishbowl went very well yesterday. It was a big change in not only the size of the Inner circle but also the pace of the outer circle. The Inner Circle did great and never had to repeat a question. I want to thank everyone who helped set it up, I don't think Ms. Smith could have done it on her own. I also want to say thanks to those who participated outsie of class in the Outer Circle. I tink, overall, it went extremely well. Oh, and it was definitely wiedrd talking to somone who is like 5000 miles away in real time
The fish bowl was... amazing. I was utterly blown away by the questions, answers, and the entire thing as a whole. The inner circle was completely prepared for this, in my opinion. They had great questions for Mr. Pink, who in turn had great answers. I shouldn't even be using the word 'great' or 'amazing'. I don't think there are any words that exist in the English language that could describe how much this fish bowl has influenced my life, and hopefully it influenced everyone else's lives as well! I'd like to thank everyone for participating. Also, I'd like to say thank you to Mr. Fisch, Mr. Porter, Ms. Levesque, and Ben! Thank you all very much!! I can't wait until the next time we get to have a fish bowl with Daniel Pink, once we've finished the book. I'm sure we will only be able to blow him away more! Awesome, everyone!!
WOW, I thought thei fishbowl went really well. I'm not sure about the outer circle but the inner circle was amazing. We asked good and very interesting questions. You couldn't just answer the questions yes or no. We were able to have a little bit of discussion with Daniel Pink. He was able to actually give me idea's about my WRP. Which I already have idea's for but he added onto. I think that overall it went really well.
Yesterday's fishbowl was a success in my opinion. I think that the inner circle conversation was undoubtedly amazing and that the blog flowed very well. All of the hard work and effort put in by my fellow students and by our teachers payed off. The way technology connected us with Daniel Pink was truly amazing, and the conversation and questions in the inner circle was great. The inner circle was clearly prepared and I was proud to see that. Overall, the experience was priceless.
I felt that the inner circle for the fishbowl did an astounding job. They asked excellent questions and definitely rose to this exceptional challenge. Another great thing that occurred was that when people would comment and ask a question they were not afraid to disagree with Daniel Pink. The conversation within the outer circle was also very good. People would ask and answer questions that others asked. It also worked much better than I expected with sharing laptops. Everyone brought forth well thought out questions and answered them very deeply.
I thought that the fishbowl with Mr. Pink was incredible. The topics that were discussed in the inner circle were really interesting and sometimes I forgot to watch the blog because I was so captivated by his opinions and comments on what my classmates had to say! The blog also went really well. There comments popping up at extreme rates so it was hard to read questions, let alone respond to them. Despite this small bump in the road, I feel like we still managed to do an amazing blog.
Thanks, Mr. Pink, for taking the time to listen to us and inspire us to be the best we can be in the future!
I think we did very well. The inside circle asked a lot of good questions and actually had a conversation with pink as opposed to a question and answer session.
The outer circle had a lot of discussion going on as well. There separate conversations everywhere, it was hard to keep track of all of them. It was even better because a few people from outside the school also came in, and we got to hear some new points of view on the book. I had an entire discussion with a math professor about math and science in relation to AWNM.
I definitely think that we should include outside sources on these things more often, just to get that point of view. If we can get some engineers, mathematicians, and other knowledge worker's take on the book.
I think this fishbowl was very good. My only regret was that I got so caught up in one topic on the live blog that I failed to read any others often enough. Otherwise this fishbowl was great because I noticed that we all seemed to know what we were going to say ahead of time. I think this could be due to the fact that the fishbowl was with Mr. Pink himself. Either way it really added to our level of fishbowling. I like how the inner circle had many more topics and we covered so much so quickly. The funny part was all of the topics I prepared for were not the ones I tended to comment on. I guess that just goes to show that you never know where the thought process will go. The other thing I liked is that normally on these resonses I have to choose a few good things and a few bad things but this time there are not enough bad things to continue. Overall the fishbowl with Mr. Pink was fantastic and will help to improve our thinking in the future.
I thought the fishbowl went well. We had a stronger disscussion than we have before and we didn't get off topic. I couldn't really pay attention to the inner circle but the outer circle went very smoothly.
I think the fishbowl yesterday was a success. As we know, Mr. Pink really enjoyed talking to us and I agree that we had good discussions going on in both the inner and outer circle. I think it was kind of hard for the outer circle to get going for a few minutes because we were so focused on Pink, but once conversation picked up, it kept going and going. At the same time, it was somewhat hard to keep up with the discussion on the blog because there were so many people but it was also more comfortable with so many. Also, with so much attention going to the outer circle discussion, it was somewhat difficult to pay attention to what Pink was discussing. Overall, though, I think yesterday’s fishbowl went really well.
This was an amazing opportunity, I was so excited to talk to Daniel Pink and it is a real treat to actually hold a conversation with him. Thank you to Mr. Pink, Ms. Smith, Mr. Fisch, Mr. Porter, and Ms. Levesque and Ben for making this run smoothly, and allowing us to do this. Mr. Pink answered all of our questions really well, and it got me thinking even more about his book, A Whole New Mind. His comments really helped me to think more about the aspects of design in today's world. Thanks again to everyone who helped.
First off, i just wanted to tell everybody what a great job they did! the blog was constantly flowing, and we were able to continue on topics that the inner circle didn't have time for. The inner circle was also very prepared, and kept the conversation flowing. Thank you Mr. Fisch, Ms. Levesque, Ben, and Mr. Porter for all your help setting up! This fishbowl was our best yet, and i don't think any of us were effected by the pressure, and I think this was because of how unintimidating Mr. Pink was.
My fishbowl experience from yesterday consisted of listening to Mr. Pink and the inner Circle's discussion, sharing a computer with Peter, and consistently reading the flow of comments into the cover it live blog. I spent most of my time absorbing the comments in the blog. At times i began to think that there were a lot irrelevant comments on the blog regarding the design of mouse traps and toasters. I am truly sort of disappointed in our discussion but i did think that eventually we had several good conversations going.
I thought that yesterday's fishbowl was one of our best. We asked good questions and didn't get stuck on one specific topic. We had some good debates but they didn't drag on for too long like they sometimes do. It was really cool to have Mr. Pink there and actually talking to us about his book. It was fun to listen to what he said and what he thought now. I think the inner circle did a pretty good job but I didn't listen too much because of all the comments in the cover it live conversation. I was a little disappointed when some people called Mr. Pink names such as ignorant because he put a lot of work into this and if they thought he did something wrong they could have said it in a nicer way. Overall, I think this is our best fishbowl.
I think that Period 2/5 did a very well done job when asking Dan some questions. The once in a lifetime chance that we got and we took it to the next level. I mean even Daniel Pink seemed amazed by the questions. The only thing i wish could have changed was the topic broadness and maybe the time limit for there were many questions that i wanted to ask him such as topics from Intro-3. I only got to ask one question that I'm not sure i got the answer I wanted or understood his answer, but I'll look into it and hypothesize about it later. All in all it was great to talk to an author of a great book about ideas that I've been thinking about before.......How does Smith know Dan anyways?
It seemed more like an interview than a discussion to me. One of the inner circle would say something, and then Mr. Pink would respond for twenty minutes. Then the same thing happened again and again. I missed not having my computer in the inner circle, so I could blog when things were slow, and so i could bring in some of the other's comments. It's really so cool that we were able to do this. Talk about the awesomeness of technology! I highly dbout we would have been able to talk to him in real life, but webcams etc. made this possible.
The Fisch Bowl with Daniel Pink went extremely well! Being in the inner circle, I have to admit, I was very nervous because Daniel Pink is such an influential man. Everyone was so prepared and asked great questions that he could elaborate on and he gave us very informative answers.
The web cam was great because it appeared like he right next to us instead of sitting in an office many miles away in Washington D.C. I was very proud of everyone both in the inner and outer circle. I foresee this experience setting new standards for our Fisch Bowls in the future. Good job everyone!
I think that yesterday's fishbowl was very interesting. Mr. Pink answered each question thoroughly and provided everyone with a clear idea on his perspective. The outer circle discussion was amazing. I loved reading the opinions of Mr. Warlick and Mr. Noack and would like to thank them for their contribution to the discussion. While I did enjoy the fishbowl, like others have said, the process was more like an interview than a discussion.
I think that the fishbowl went very well. It was much faster paced in the outer circle because of the multitude of people from both classes and from other areas. The inner crcle was kind of hard to follow if you stopped listening to comment on the blog for even a few minutes, but some very good points were made. I think that those who were in the inner circle did a very good job of asking questions that made Mr. Pink stop and really consider his answer. It was also very good to have such noted participants in the outer circle discussion (David Warlick).
I feel like the fishbowl was beneficial to my understanding of design, as well as good experience for later on with this book and in my future. It was a great experience to be able to communicate with such a diverse group and to interact with the other class for one of the first times this year. They all had some very good input that we may not have received if it had been just our class.
Yesterday, the Fishbowl with Mr. Pink, I personally think the fishbowl went really well, we had lots of questions (which wowed Mr. Pink) didn’t repeat questions, and did a good job of letting everyone speak. I personally was on the inner circle, so I thought that was really cool and a fascinating to talk to Mr. Pink, even if he didn’t know the answer to question he still would answer to the best of his ability. All the knowledge that he held was amazing; how he knew all of these facts that he places so nicely in order so then, he wasn’t just spitting up information.
Whenever, I would look up to see the screen so then I could see how the outer circle was going and they were going so fast answering so many questions. The responses the outer circle gave were so sophisticated, and really impressed me. Good job everyone!!!!
The live blog with Daniel Pink was a great experience that only us 9th graders got to experience.
It was a very deep interesting conversation. We had very good questions by all of our people in the inner circle. There were like 40-50 people in the outer circle and comments kept popping up faster than you could read. There was so much going on that I at least thought it was kind of hard to keep track of it all. I would like to point out Ziven had really good thoughts throughout the blog and kept us moving in our conversations and kept us thinking. So thanks Ziven.
Also, I thought we got a lot out of this doing to Design. Mr. Pink gave us lots of great ideas and we should be able to build off them in the future.
I think the fishbowl yesterday with Dan Pink was by far one of the best fishbowls we ever had. The inner circle was great because there questions were wonderful and they kept moving with out repeating topics and points, and as far as I could hear and observe it was great conversation and discussion, although it mostly consisted of Dan constantly talking and talking and talking. But it was great actually seeing the authors point of view on his own book, and it helped me understand his book much more. While it took a little longer to get the live blogging up and running it still went very well in my opinion and the disscussion flowed relatively nicely. I personally thought that because we had the two classes combined for that hour that it was much more helpful. The collaborativeness was great because even though we had to share computers for live blogging it gave us a chance to discuss our viewpoints before sending them in, but also it became easier to multitask and live blogg but actually listen to the conversation circling in the inner circle. It was truly an amazing experience that I'm glad I was apart of. Thank you Smith and Mr. Fisch, and of course Dan Pink!
