Max-
I think you can be forced to learn. If you want to be really technical people could torture you and when you are in a lot of pain you usually remember everything that had to do with it. Most humans will break and do anything to get out of torture. That's why it's effective.

Jay-
That's what I'm saying.
Love is a feeling, meaning it's different for everyone.

stephaniel2012 said...

Alex- I wouldn't be able to say anything. I'd be dead. But I know what you were saying.

I was talking to my sister yesterday, and she was whining about how she had so much to do, and so little time to do it. It was angering me, because with the way I live, I don't focus on finishing in the right amount of time. So I would live the same exact way as I am right now, if I could come back, because I'm living what I consider the fullest, even though I missing something. But there is no such thing as complete or full, if I'm not missing something, you know? It's backwards and a little twisted, but there you go.

Jay- love is an emotion it is a feeling an opinion so it doesn't really mean anything but it does. I have an opinion that Obama should be president but that doesn't make him president. It's the same way with love it is an opinion not a fact.

John-
I think that anything can be an obseesion. Because in Romeo and Juliet, all they can think about is each other. So, it's that basically what an obsession is?

nickb2012 said...

jay,
to me, lyrics mean so much that they can teach us soooo much. take the flobots, theres handlebars- showing us what we CAN be doing to HELP, but we are instead doing the same thing to HURT!

Maxe2012 said...

Austin- So you memorize what happened? Is that really learning? I don't think so.

chelseac2012 said...

Alex -
If I died right now, I would have to say I took much but little at the same time. I can tell, this year I am going to take much more than I have in the past.
I have a family member who just recently died and on Saturday, I attended the funeral. There were a few people who stood up to say some words. They all said how he had lived his life to the fullest, he made people happy and for the last few days of his life, he just had fun. He went out and had Mexican food and margaritas! He made life exciting and left our family with a smile...

Chelsea and anyone else on the love conversation-
I wasn't able to trace the whole conversation so if I'm repeating something please understand.

If a man doesn't attach himself to attractions or desires never shall his heart be broken, but then does he ever truly live?

This is one of my favorite quotes. In terms of F451 this means that if you don't try to attach yourself to anything, such as love, then you will never be sad.

If you never try to actually connect with something, in this case another person, you will never be sad. If you never try to love another person you'll never be sad.
Mildred and Montag were never really sad, they never connected and never truly knew each other. They were never really bothered about anything, like Montag said.

But then are they truly happy?
Montag started to be happy when Clarisse bothered and connected with him. She showed him something new, and he connected that feeling with her.

Erica and Max- So what I am saying that love has a meaning. But if you asked 100 people in a survey, you would get 100 different answers.

ericak2012 said...

Max-
Why express political views?

john c said...

Jay

I guess you are right. But do you think that even if she left his mark on him that that makes it for sure that there was love?

ericak2012 said...

Jay-
You would get some answers going along the same track...

bayleyk2012 said...

leslieh-

Where are the waffles?

Maxe2012 said...

Jay- what is your meaning of love because I couldn't even begin to describe mine. If someone asked me what love is I would say I can't describe it. So can you describe love?

AustinW2012 said...

Well is learning being able to recall information or being able to create it.

Austin Davis said...

Learning takes more than one person though, it's not an indiviual effort, it takes more than one person.

chelseac2012 said...

Tristan -
When someone says, "I love you", they have to have a reason for it. It could be untrue, but I think to say "I love you" would be what would I do for the person? If I was willing to risk more for a person, the love is stronger...

Maxe2012 said...

Erica- I express my political views because it was the first and best example I could think of and it might not have been a good idea sorry.

alexandriab2012 said...

Austinw-
I'm not saying that you died tommorw but what I'm saying is that right now, you died and you were able to look back and see your life.
What can you do to make every day more legenary?

jays2012 said...

Nick- Yes! Listening to songs bring me back to what has happened in the past. There are a couple of songs, actually probably hundreds, that remind me of everything. Like I have a song for everything. Some remind me of bad things, and some remind me of the great times.

ericak2012 said...

Max and Jay-
Yes, Jay, would it even be possible to get some answers in a survey if you can't describe it...?

Laurao said...

Bayley-

Yes I agree. Montag was afraid to remember some of the Bible. He can now regergitate and apply the book to his own life.

kaleidoscope_eyes said...

jay-
i have been known to listen to the same song on repeat for two hours trying to get what it is saying. What i figured out is that you got to let the music it's self use it's voice. If it was all words, it would be poetry. Use the music for what it is. There is another quote that i can't cite that says if what music has to say could be said in words, it wouldn't be music. Listen to Psyco by Puddle of Mudd. try to think about the meaning. I'll tell you what i came up with after you do.

jays2012 said...

Erica- you would get some that are near, but everyone's are so different

AustinW2012 said...

Austin-
I think learning can be only one person. As a child when you start to walk you fall and hurt yourself. You learn it's not pleasant and so you want to walk and not fail. Nobody tells you it hurts to fall you learn it by yourself.

mariep2012 said...

Tritan - I think that love means that you worry about a person's well-being, and you would do whatever for that person, just so they will be happy. And maybe, if you really loved someone truly, you would be willing to die for them. If you are willing to give yourself entirely to someone, and they to you, then it's love.

jays2012 said...

Max- It would take me a long time to think of how to describe love. I can't even put it into a thought now.

stephaniel2012 said...

Everyone talking about love-
Why even try to define it? It's always going to change, there's always going to be different types of love.

ericak2012 said...

Jay-
Everyone's is different, but like Max said, you can't descibe it. Would they all have a different answer but all say the same thing, 'I can't describe it.'?

nickb2012 said...

austin,
is that true?, probably, but do we learn from them that something hurts?

Maxe2012 said...

Jay- I think that people know a general definition of love and that is what they would answer. Love isn't a definition it is a feeling and I don't think that we can really describe feelings. We just think we can.

ashleys2012 said...

Austin-

I think learning is when you can be talking about Newton's Third Law of Motion and be able to relate it to what happend to you yesterday. Being able to take a science topic and relate it to wehn you were not in school, that is learning. Learning is retaining, using and relating knowledge.

john c said...

Alex-

But Romeo and juliet had love, and an obsession over that love. Aren't those two different things?

kaleidoscope_eyes said...

tristin-
saying "i love you" in and of it's self is risking a lot. I mean, sometimes it would be easy for a girl to say "eww no you dork get away".

ericak2012 said...

Jay and Max-
Jay, if you can't even put it into a thought how can you expect people to when you survey them?

chelseac2012 said...

Bernardo -
I think to truly love someone, you'd have to look on the inside and see who they really are. To be happy, you have to be able to know that person instead of what they just look like. In my opinion, love has different levels but true love is when you know a person inside and out, loving them for all their faults as well as their good points.

stellab2012 said...

Max-
I have a whole group of friends who, in their own words, choose "not to learn". They are some of the most intelligent people I know. They drift from school, but they learn on their own.
School can't force you to do anything. But how far do you think we would make it without school?

kaleidoscope_eyes said...

ok, i want to be a theorist when i grow up.

BernardoT2012 said...

I'm not sure I would describe Clarisse as an obsession. Bradbury wrote the book so that Clarisse would reveal to Montag this new world within the one he lives in.

But then, Bradbury gets rid of Clarisse as a character. She still lives on however. So at the point of the story where Montag is really thinking about society, and books, and Clarisse, she's more of a symbol for the knowledge and texture of life Montag is exploring.

Most definitely I've heard of the Black Parade by MCP. I can see your point. I believe you have changed my opinion this. I've been contemplating this, and I've changed my mind. I completely back you with proof.

A few fishbowls ago, Smith presented the idea that there are some things, works of art, music, poems, that grab at your heart and just make you break down. Well, that has happened to me recently (If you check one of our previous fishbowls, the song will be there, along with the comment I left it with.) and it didn't hurt my heart. My head just suddenly felt empty, like I hadn't quite known anything at all. My heart had nothing to do with it.

alexandriab2012 said...

Chelsea-
Since we cna't come back and do it again, we can't live that day again because we "messed up"so, how do we live ever day to the fullest?

AustinW2012 said...

alex-
it depends on how you define legendary. It generally means good but what if someone does something really bad? Everyone knows who hitler and osama bin laden are. I honestly would not live differently than I do now. I'm happy with where I am. I don't need to like jump out of an airplane and land on a target or something. I'm happy where I am.

AllisonM2012 said...

Hannah~ I would think that the society in 451 was changed slowly over time. Just like Faber said, the intellectuals did not stand up and attempt to stop the change. They were too afraid. I actually think that it is actually very possible that our society could turn up like one in the book. We have become addicted to technology. Our society has begun to turn toward the society in the book. That does not mean that it will occur but that we are just starting go toward that direction. I think that that is the message that Bradbury was trying to tell us. We must always stand up and challenge people to think and never be ashamed and afraid to do so.

Alex –
Living life to the fullest means different things to different people. For me, it would be… have fun, treat others with respect, and never be afraid to speak my mind/opinion. I’d also love to become an author but I’m not concentrating on that to live my life to the fullest.

connorm said...

Stella- I think that in 451 if a book is given to someone with potential it will give them more power and make them rise above others putting fear into others. You wouldn't be able to control and you would fear what the books created so they would need to be burned.

connorm said...

Ok forgive me if i am selfish but living life to what i think would be its fullest would would be never doing any kind of work again. all i would do would be to ski, golf, fish, mountain bike, hike, and live at my cabin.

Peter- Its true that fire does destroy everything and light the way up but, doesn't fire dies out eventually leaving darkness once again because there is nothing from before to light the place up because the fire destroyed it.
