I thought the fishbowl went very well. People made very good points both in the blog and in conversation. Sometimes it got a little ahrd to keep up and keep track but I think those skills will come with experience.

I liked the fishbowl a lot. Although sometimes it seemed like the inner circle was too fast for the outer, it was nice to listen to their comments, and then blog questions regarding their comments to both circles. I thought it went really well, and I think it showcases our professional learning environment. I am excited for another fishbowl!

I liked the fishbowl a lot. It let everyone get involved, not just the people who do all the talking. Some people do not like to talk so this activity got every type of person involved. It is also a good strategy to practice because it is like the students teaching each other their views on the topic, in this case talking about Harrison Bergeron and the Pedestrian.

I think that the fishbowl went well. At times it felt like too many people wanted to talk at the same time and it made it hard to still have good discussions because people wanted to talk about too many things at once. That may have come from the fact that we didn't always have specific questions to go on from the people who were presenting. It also at times felt like Ms. Smith was kind of controlling the converstaion and making it go the direction she wanted it to. But overall, I think that it is a really good way to discuss and that it worked pretty well, especially for a first time.

I thought the fishbowl went very well for us all being 1st timers. I was in the inner circle, so I think it was easier for us than it was for the outer circle people. We were all talking so fast and moving from point to point and I can for sure understand how it might have been hard for them to keep up while typing. I haven't had a chance to look at the blog but I am on my way to do that right after this. I didn't get to talk as much as I had liked because as soon as I thought of something to say the subject got changed right away. We were skipping around alot but I guess that's the point? It went very well and kept me interested though.

I liked the fishbowl. Although at times it was hard to keep up with the blog conversations and the inner circle conversations. Other than that I think it went very well. A lot of good points were made and it was just a great discussion. I now know more about Harrison B. and the Pedestrian. Great job everyone!

Personally I think the Fishbowl went very well. Everyone was able to get involved, including people who didn't want to talk very much or was just shy. There was many great points made in both the inner and outer circles. I think this is a great way to discuss.

I think the fishbowl went really good. I really liked how the people on the outside could just blog, and get into really great discussions, because sometimes its really hard to get into a conversation when the whole class is a part of it. Also, it is much easier to get into a real discussion in a smaller group like the inner circle. I think the whole idea is a great one and it will work well for discussing Fahrenheit 451

I, like a lot of people thought that the fishbowl went well because there were just the right amount of people in the inner circle. If we had more I think it would have been hard for everyone to get their thoughts in and if we had less there would not have been such a lively discussion.

There were so many blog conversations going I don't think we will ever be able to keep up with ALL of them, especially if you are in the inner circle.

I think the fishbowl went really well, seeing that this was our first time doing one of this manner.

There are some good points brought up on the live blog, but when one is in the inner circle it is hard to discuss while reading all the new blog post that are coming up, at least for me anyway. I think that if a live blogger on the outer circle has a really good comment or something they would like to share with the inner circle they should be able to interject from where they are. This doesn't mean that they have to be in the inner circle the whole time, just call out when they have a really good point that applies to what the inner circle is talking about.

I do really like this way of discussing/learning Smith. It's definitely not education as usual!

One question... can we be blogging if we are in the inner circle? or should we just count on one of the outer circle students to hear what we were talking about?

I really liked the fish bowl. I felt like the discussion was good because there were less people talking (in the inner circle). However, it was also hard to simply present questions when I also wanted to discuss other questions. Also, I felt like it was hard to steer the conversation and present new questions like I was supposed to because Ms. Smith did that a lot for us.

I think the fishbowl went very well. I enjoyed listening to all of the discussions and answering all of the complex questions. The fishbowl really made me think and i believe it will be a great learning tool to see all of the different perspectives on a topic and discussing them.

I think the fishbowl was a success! I like the idea a lot and hope this works out the way it did everytime. I agree with Meg in that the inner circle was a lot faster than the outercircle, because most of us can speak faster than we type.

I liked the fishbowl alot because on the blog, everyone could be having multiple conversations woth multipul people and you could hear what other people had to say. I think that the "inner circle" would be a little harder because only one person can talk at once and there would only be one conversation, one thing to focus on and any other thoughts that you have you would have to save for when the subject changes.

I liked the fishbowl too. We came up with some really great connections that I know that I could have never come up with on my own. The outer circle's conversation, from what I saw of it, was very good also. I think that this is a great way to explore and see literature as more than just words on paper, but as a way to make a statement or express an opinion. In other words,to see the writing beyond what's on the surface.

The fishbowl helped our class to start two different conversations about the same topic. This way if someone had different ideas of how they wanted the conversation to go they could just type it out on the outer circle. Also, everyone got to express their opinion on the blog not just through verbally speaking. I think this is a valuable tool in learning.

I think the fish bowl went quite well and we had alot of great discussion. The inner circle went pretty fast and was pretty hard to follow but I think this is due to the fact that people were so eager to express, voice and discuss their ideas. I think perhaps it would be interesting to divide up into smaller inner circles to combat this problem... Also following the blog (which had what felt like a milion conversations going on at once) as well as the inner circle conversation was quite challenging and overstimulating. Still I think this is intrinsic in this kind of learning style and that this is something that also has alot of benefits because it forces you to develop a great number of ideas and thoughts and can completely change your thinking. It also gives you acess to everyone elses ideas and intrepretation which can give you a much greater and more thorough understanding of a text and it's importance and meaning... Overall I thought this was a great first fishbowl. I agree with those who say this can only get better as we go...

I also really like the fishbowl. It provided for different opinions and ways to see things. Its also allowed for more conversation time and allowed real conversations to ensue. I was in the smaller circle but I also think I might enjoy being in the larger circle. This format works well for me.

But I was wondering, (this is not a question for the smaller or larger circle but a question for the world) why is this format referred to as a fishbowl?

I am not exactly sure what we were supposed to write on this blog but I would like to say that I really liked the fishbowl we participated in class in. Its amazing how many conversations we probably had by the end of the class period. It was kind of hard to focus on both the inner circle and at the same time participate in all the conversations on the blog. But I really liked it overall, I think it is a great way to discuss.

annas2012 said...

I thought the fish bowl was a really good idea. Everybody was able to participate whether it be in the middle or around the outside. Being a discusser, i thought that the conversation went really well in the fish bowl. It is a good way to share opinions and ideas about specific topics. I also learned a lot about what other people were thinking and that helped me to understand even more.

treyjb2012 said...

I really thought that was a sweet idea. I think it was really fun to see what other people had to say about that. However the live blogging was extremely frustrating at times. Its almost live its not worth it to post because your comment was almost immediately swamped by others and it is never recognized or even really read by anyone.

Just scrolling through the old fish bowl on HB and had some comments. I saw some comments that were irrelevant and frankly dumb. I think that if you can’t post a comment that has value to the conversation, it would be better for you to try and answer other people’s questions. Also this sort of coincides with my other comment but these 1 sentence comments... they don’t bring much value to the fishbowl. I saw 2 people specifically that repeatedly made irrelevant, 1 sentence comments. So conclusively, it would be nice if these few people could bring forth more effort.

Even though I had some complaints in my previous post, I thought that the fish bowl was a great way to debrief a section of reading. Perhaps the only way better would be to use a different type of blog that automatically refreshed itself so it would be faster paced discussion. But I think the fire wall on the school would prevent us from doing that. But this was only a minor inconvenience and I still enjoyed the fishbowl very much.
