Chelsea- But he knows that Montag is behind him and he knows peole are getting their books burned because of their beleif in books so why is the fear stoping him from standing up?

stephaniel2012 said...

Do you live for something or someone? Doesn't everyone live for someone?

robertc2012 said...

INNER CIRCLE: Peter and Bernado- talking about what we are running towards in life, that would go more into Christianity again. Leslie set up a blog if you want to talk more about that... I personally live for Jesus. At least I try to. Sometimes I get off track and run back towards the start, but I will keep running forward to reach the end goal.

AllisonM2012 said...

John~ I think the babies are happy because they have nothing else to compare it to. They have had very few experiences in their life so there are very few things to make them unappy.

chelseac2012 said...

Nick –
Yup! Hence why they don’t allow books in their society.

Brianc2012 said...

Chelsea- I think to enjoy life you have to expirement with stuff until something makes you happy or gives you a something to live for.

bayleyk2012 said...

But I think society is how we think it helps to define who we are. it's what we think as a whole

robertc2012 said...

Stephanie- If you live for someone on earth, then eventually that person is going to die and you can lose your encouragement. That's why I live for Jesus.

ericak2012 said...

Kyle and Alex-
I find it funny that while he is talking about writing, he spells it wrong, I know it is probably a typo, but either way, it's ironic. Also, he didn't go back and fix it...

Maxe2012 said...

In earlier fish bowls, we have talked about utopias as being impossible. But if people are constantly making new inventions and trying to make life better, wouldn't a utopia eventually be reached? If it isn't what would happen?

Laurao said...

Alison and John-

Babies can detect happiness and unhappiness. If the parents are unhappy, the baby will be unhappy.

nickb2012 said...

john,
like i said, THey don't know how to express any emotions, happiness can be expressed in many different ways and i think that we think babies could be expressing happiness, but they aren't, they are instead leraning how to show emotions

kaleidoscope_eyes said...

erica- thank you! waffles can be very deep. It's the simplest things that make the best analogies.
stephanie- i was counting on you for waffle backup...

ericak2012 said...

Max-
Yes a utopia can be reached, but not a society as a utopia, an individual can have a utopia with themselves and their veiw on life.

chelseac2012 said...

Sammie –
He’s afraid to die… he’s simply afraid. He wants the change but he doesn’t want to lose his life over trying to change the society.

KyleL2012 said...

Tristan-Right now our first amendment prevents us from becoming the F451 society. We can't prevent people from reading books, we can read banned books, but if they get rid of the constitution........i wonder what F451 did with the constitution?

bayleyk2012 said...

Laura- yes they're all to scared like faber says, I fought at first but then no one was fighting with me.

john c said...

Allison

I get that, but then Nick had said that hapiness doesn't exist without the knowledge of bad, so I'll ask this again:

So if they compare it how are they happy if they don't know sadness (If what nick said is actually true)?

nickb2012 said...

Chelsea,
what other aspects of life make people want to challenge the system?

Brianc2012 said...

Max- A utopia is a place where everyone is happy. It is very hard to make everyone happy because if you do something to make someone happy, you can be making another person angry. Therfore it is almost impossible to make a utopia.

Maxe2012 said...

Erica- so you are saying that eventually when a person's life is perfect, except the people around them, to make their life better, they will kill everyone. Are serial killers so crazy then? Or are their lives almost perfect?

alexandriab2012 said...

Kyle-
True, but what if it's a textbook. That tells you things so then you know something about the past. I wouldn't know about history if I hadn't read the history book. Sure I could have heard some small details from grandparents. However, would my grandparents tell me when that the Magna Carta was signed in 1215? No because that doesn't matter to them, however it matters to me.

Laurao said...

Robert-

I understand where you are coming from. So if you lived in this society, there would not be any bibles left. Just something to think about.

connorm said...

Erica_ If u want to compare a human being to a waffle its actually really shallow i mean a waffle! waffles are simple mixture that are baked and are not comparable to a human being in any way.

robertc2012 said...

Kyle- that's a great point: Where's the Constitution? Ignored? Forgotten? Destroyed?

john c said...

Nick

What? Explain how "THey don't know how to express any emotions", but then you say "happiness can be expressed in many different ways"

stephaniel2012 said...

robert: Well, Jesus still is someone, isn't he?

Leslie: Gee, I'm sorry. I thought you were dealing with it well, but really, I prefer the style of waffle more than the texture. I don't like belgian waffles.

ericak2012 said...

Leslie-
You're Welcome!
No offense to Peter, but I don't see why his point of running to reach something can be considered deep when we have used it many times before but your waffle analogy can't be considered as deep. You're comment was just another analogy, no matter what it was being compared to, we can compare the simplist things and have it make sense, if it makes people understand then it can be considered deep. I personally think that Smitty is wrong, you did have a deep comment.

Maxe2012 said...

Brian- ALMOST impossible, so it's possible but it just seems impossible. There are proofs that 9.999 infinitive equals 10 but it doesn't it just can't but at the same time it does. How? Why? Is a utopia like the last 9 finally becoming a 10? But isn't that impossible?

john c said...

Laura

Yes Laura, but is that the only factor in happiness?

Wait never mind. I get you now

sammiet2012 said...

Max- A utopia can't ever be reached because people have different opinions. Ex: Civil War. After it was over the racism was still there. North still thought they were better than the South and vice versa.

ericak2012 said...

Connor-
In no way am I comparing you to a waffle. Life could be considered a waffle, silly as it seems, but Leslie said the texture of a waffle is what makes it worthwhile, isn't the texture of life what makes it good?

Brianc2012 said...

Max- If everyone in the society likes the same thing, then a utopia is possilbe, but people like different things than others.

Laurao said...

Bayley-

I understand, is there the same ignorance as there is knowledge. You never know how much ignorance is covering up the knowledge.

kaleidoscope_eyes said...

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the
intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- WOW-- What a Ride!"

nickb2012 said...

laura,
good point about the baby haveing the parents emotion. however, do they just learn this emotion through watching and learning from the parents?

in 451's society, does taking away children really early make it impossible to begin to learn emotions?

Does 451's society try get rid of emotions?

loganc2012 said...

Stephanie- Your question connects a lot with me. I definitely live for a person, but at the same time that person inspires me to live for something. So I think both can be true.

alexandriab2012 said...

Erica-
I love how you make a comment on that. We all make mistakes. but yes it is ironic.
What do you think about fire or friendship? We know which one is safer, bu which one iw worth more?

Anonymous said...

Kyle ~
It is called an amendment because it amends. It changes. That means that it can be changed as well. If our people change, then the government would be forced to change. So far in F451, there hasn't been much mention of the government. Maybe the government is just being dragged along for the ride, like a sled on tied to the back of a car, spinning out of control.

chelseac2012 said...

Nick –
Happiness… curiosity… some people might actually think and have a small interest in something different; if you think it sounds interesting, wouldn’t you try it?

robertc2012 said...

Laura- 451 is fiction, so I doubt that in real life all the bibles will be destroyed, like I said earlier. In some foreign countries I think Bibles are banned, but they still find ways to hide them in places because they are so valuable.

ericak2012 said...

Alex-
Which one is better for longer?

Maxe2012 said...

Sammie- so you agree with Erica that as long as there are 2+ people, a utopia can't be reached. but then eventually, in the pursuit of happiness, everyone except one person will die, that person will die too. So is happiness killing us? Is happiness going to destroy everything?

KyleL2012 said...

Alex-ah yes but you didn't write the text book, someone else did. it's sole purpose is to teach a student, but it's all still spreading ideas through writing

Erica-my w key is non-responsive so that's hy i spell rite wrong

stephaniel2012 said...

Erica and Leslie:
Comparing simple things to complex things helps us understand. Complexities don't always dictate understanding, do they? Everyone knows what a waffle is, don't they? Not everyone understands the depths to the complex question of the traits that makes life good. Kudos.

ericak2012 said...

Max-
It's not happiness if it destroys everything.

robertc2012 said...

Stephanie- Yes, you were right, Jesus is someone. So I do live for someone.

alexandriab2012 said...

Nick-
No, because if a child falls on the playground and starts crying because it hurts so much, that teaches you emtions. So I think you can learn without being by your parents.

Maxe2012 said...

Erica- so does happiness exist?

kaleidoscope_eyes said...

erica- it is the texture in life that makes it worthwile. If it was all flat like a pancake, we would all be bored. However, if you like the light and fluffyness of pancakes, then that is what will make it worthwile for you. I also like waffles because you can stick more stuff in the holes. Everything roles off pancakes. I think that you can get more out of life when life is a waffle.

nickb2012 said...

john-
babies learn emotions from parents and other aspects in its life. at first there's no way to tell wwhat they are feeling. when a parent gets mad, it can feel it. and it learns how to cope with madness and when they see someone react badly when another is mad at them, they learn.

sammiet2012 said...

Chelsea- Well if you believe in books that strongly then why wouldn't you risk it all? I know you would be afraid but what is wrong with the risk because the only person that has died is the lady that killed herself for her books, but everyone else was just sent to jail or the loony bin.

bayleyk2012 said...

Laura- yes, but one bit of information can shatter your ignorance like what happened to Montag

chelseac2012 said...

I love looking up quotes, so here’s one…

“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.” -Albert Camus

robertc2012 said...

Is anyone else really hungry for a crisp, hot waffle with maple syrup right now?

KyleL2012 said...

Erica- you actually did bring something up, i wonder why write and right sound the same? did the inventors of the word try to mean something?

john c said...

Nick

I get that. Its just like what laura said. I just didn't think of where they would learn emotions

alexandriab2012 said...

Erica-
Friendship can last or a while but what if they have a fight and are no longer friends.
Fire holds protection.
But which one is better (in your opinnion)?

john c said...

MMMM...........

WAFFLES

Laurao said...

Robert-

So, if Montag is the exception, the only person with a bible but montag promised to give all of his books up after 48 hours. What will happen after that last Bible is gone?

nickb2012 said...

chelsea,
Then hasn't 451's society taken away the thinking in life, the real happiness in life and everything else.

sammiet2012 said...

Max- In a way yes.

stephaniel2012 said...

Logan:
Someone asked me the question that I asked: do you live for something or do you live for someone? But you're right when you say that the person inspires you to live for something....

BernardoT2012 said...

Okay, enough of the breakfast items, Robert, please learn how to spell my name, and we are out of time now, but later I will come back and make my point about yin and yang theory

robertc2012 said...

Laura- What do you mean, in the story after the last Bible is gone? How far have you read? It says later...

chelseac2012 said...

Sammie –
But for some people, their fear may overpower their will for rightness. Yes, normally people would stand up but isn’t there always the one person who holds back till the end? The one person who is so afraid but ends up helping because they know what’s right? I think, for now, the old man is seriously afraid but will become of better use when he realizes how much their society would change.

Nick –
Yes. Their society has taken away true happiness but none of the citizens really know what true happiness is because they don’t know what the outside world is like. If you knew nothing more than a simple world that you lived in, would you question your happiness?

Waffles still sound really good…

ashleys2012 said...

Leslie-

Society is a group of people working together to achieve the best system for them. Us, the readers, may disagree with their society but if they are achieving their goals in their society, are we wrong to say they their society is a failure?
