Brooke-Just because something is not in the book it does not mean it is not relavant. The whole point of the book is to get you to think about your own world and society.

Katie: I don't know about Hitler and communism, but politics because it's an election year and we hear about this stuff everyday, and we are now really beginning to pay attention because most of us will be voting in the next election. So, it's really become a big part of our lives.

But Justin- That is exactly what I am saying. I think Mildred had as much emotion as anyone, it was just all bottled up.

Bridget: I totally agree with you to a tee. I find it so scary that this was written 50 years ago and it still is true today.

katiez2012 said...

Bridget - I sure hope not. I think that if people now really cared enough to change it,then they would. Something must be stopping them don't you think?

kaelib2012 said...

Bridget-I hope our world isnt going in that direction, but it seems like it is. It doesnt seem like a big deal to a lot of people to abort their babies, its becoming more and more common

Trey; Exactly. Some people, for example, like to try new food and culture, but others want to stick with what they are familiar with. It's what their personality is. Daring, are safe.

carolineb2012 said...

Lauren- How does that pertain to the story?

PaulAB2012 said...

Kinsey- I dont think they will ever be completely gone because some people refuse to change. The world is still full of racists.

samis2012 said...

Trey brainwashed is basically, draining someone of their ability to think for themselves, and sometime the ability to think at all.

lsadler2012 said...

Kinsey: What is a phobia? Is it wrong to have a "phobia" of something?

kinzerinz said...

Justin- I'm a little confused. Are you saying that doing something over and over (which is a routine) is not the samething as being brainwashed? I'm not saying that having a routine means that youre brainwashed, but being brainwashed is just having a routine that you can't break.

justinp2012 said...

trey: I think that I might of answered that in an earlier post. Brainwashed could mean other than that though.

bens2012 said...

Paul- I agree with you. The disscussion is about things "bigger than the book."

PaulAB2012 said...

Annasophia-I dont think you can really say because the book does not give you enough information...

kinzerinz said...

Paul- I agree. Maybe down the road all the tables will turn. Maybe the people who being discriminated against will become the discriminators. What do you think.

justinp2012 said...

Kinsey: Sometimes. I go to school over and over, doing the same things, but it doesn't mean I'm brainwashed. I think..

Seriously Kaeli keep things like abortion out of this. Bitter arguments will erupt. If that was you I think it would be different. You can never say what you would do in a situation.

bens2012 said...

Lauren- It isnt bad to have a phobia. It just means that you are really afraid of something.

bridgetL said...

Everyone- Yes! I think that Oboma is such a big supporter of abortion, that if he is elected, especially with a liberal congress, then abortion can and will quickly become a legal form of birth control. And whether you think abortion is okay or not, it is a slippery slope. It will be abortion at first, and then abortion when women are 6 months pregnant, and it can get worse and worse.

kaelib2012 said...

Trey-I didnt start a bitter argument. Katie and I both said the same thing, responding to bridgets post

lsadler2012 said...

Ben: Whats wrong with having a fear?

kinzerinz said...

Justin- I'm not saying that people who have routines are brianwashed. All I'm saying is that being brainwashed is having a routine that you don't think about and that you cant break.

jacobs2012 said...

Trey- brain washed is when you are taught a way that is bias and only presents one side of the arguement. leaving the person only one side of the issue

kinzerinz said...

Lauren- I don't think that it is wrong to have a phobia of somethings.

bens2012 said...

IC- I agree with Anna Sophia. When I was sick and couldnt talk, I found it extremeley irritating

justinp2012 said...

Trey: Actually, I think that Kaeli has a point. Back then, abortion was considered despicable, but now, it's becoming an everyday situation. More and more people are doing it without thinking.

kelseyc2012 said...

Is there maybe a possibility of like subliminal messaging in this book?

jacobs2012 said...

Guys lets keep this on topic, abortion has no relevance to the discussion.

I think the whole point of words is that they represent an idea like time and give it a common linguistic character so that we can all talk about it and think about it. That is why we have words and language to make these ideas commons...
For Example:
Time-A measurment of how long things have been going...
War- A violent conflict...
Boy- Eitheir a person with male bodyparts or who thinks in a male way...
If no words were definable we would not be able to talk or think because we would not have terms to think or talk about them with...
A word is just a label for an object (such as an Elephant) or an abstract idea (such as time). Little kids can not think about abstract ideas because they have not developed the terms to think about them in.

In this book, Ray Bradbury uses a lot of comparisons like "dead but alive" what do you think the signifigance of this is?

bridgetL said...

Jacob- Abortion is relevent. We are talking about how relevent this book is. How it is still predicting what could be the future.
